Lovers (2006)

This drama was very promising. I enjoyed the first 8 episodes. After that it went downhill for me. At first I thought the main star was great, but the further in the series the more terrible I found her. She was just a crybaby with no opinion of her own . She kept bumping after him while he had a girlfriend who was also pregnant. The protagonist was really a very nice guy to see.
But to keep going back and forth between the two women and his pregnant girlfriend in such a way as to stick to the line was the trick for me. No matter how sexy he was for me, he should have ended just alone, by the way. just like her. I did not care.
it actually did not interest me anymore. I really like Mafia / Gangster to watch but this was just not for me. I did read many good reviews so just try it .But dont get annoyed bij the main leads.

Truly a fun watch! I wish I knew Korean; it would have made a major difference because the sub-titles were good and even excellent at times. Great dialogue because the writer/writers showed "lived" experiences. Sometimes though I found the conversation between that actors not in-sync with the acting. Timing difficulties?
Overall, the acting was good and, for me, the stand out performances were Kim Nam Gil, Lee Gi Young, Kim Jung Eun, and Lee Seo Jin. The positives, negatives that are normally in people are well acted in this drama. Am now looking for dramas/movies with them in it.
Regret am only seeing this 11 years after it came out. Congratulations to everyone for a job well done!

All and all it's a really good drama

Lovers is a 2006 production, with a mature cast and a complex plot. I really liked how the characters were slowly unfolded and the complexity that each one had. It truly felt like an old, far far away in time drama, when actually it was made just 14 years ago. I read so many times that old Asian dramas are the best and Lovers proved it.
I loved the ML character, I felt his pain as an orphan, his loneliness, his lack of emotions or it seemed so -at first- and I fell for his kindness, which surprised me how they showed the sensitive side of a gangster. It was his acting that made it worth watching this show.
I extremely disliked the FL to the point I considered several times, to stop watching it. Her bad and exaggerated acting constantly reminded me of Itazura na Kiss actress. Yep, that bad. I found myself often screaming at the screen: Do something!! Are you really a doctor? Or... Are you really a surgeon?? And things like that, including some of them not so pleasant. I made a mental note to never watch any her dramas again to avoid the pain I was in.
This drama truly moved me, infuriated me, and shook me. It kept me hooked from start to end. I didn't fast forward it at all. Yes, it was a bit lengthy but enjoyable, except for how the FL was portrayed.
This definitely was a different kind of drama. I couldn't take the main actress's side or to root for her. I understand she didn't have any kind of love life experience but she as a middle-aged professional woman' she lacked common sense, a lot. You may not have experience in love but as a 32 yo. surgeon. Can she really have lived in a bubble that much? Can her ignorance be that big? 12 years of studying to be a Plastic Surgeon didn't permeate in her a bit of wisdom at all?
There is something else: I felt it lacked a little bit more of the roughness and ruthlessness of the gangster's world. Although the fighting scenes were excellent. These gangsters were very mild. I understood the leaders: the Chairman and the ML: they truly wanted to change their lifestyle. I get it, but there were times where I expected more.
Rewatch value: if available I think I'll watch it again later on. It was really hard to find it with eng subs.

enjoyable most of the time

An excellent drama, despite being a bit outdated and definitely too long.
Its major flaw, i'd say, its the crazy ending... since everything starts on a comedy note, how come it turns into a melodrama and finally becomes a tragedy? It doesnt add up to me. One VERY interesting thing is how the dark characters mix in the story with the humorous ones - the ML and his father are totally dark, while the FL and ppl on her side are sunny. Good job!
Cinematography is solid, a lot of nice details and good dialogues, also acting is very nuanced. The actors are particularly handsome and relatable - except for the nonsense "we cant be together though we are both single, mature and crazy in love". Even supporting cast is memorable...
Nice watch if you have time - or put the skip button to use.
