Smooth like Butter but with bitter aftertaste

The first thing I liked in this series was how the process was smooth like butter. Nyhaha the confession was simple, the misunderstanding was not that angsty feeling, and they both feel each other (like sync).

I want to say much about the main characters but, as someone who is always driven by the 2nd character, his suffering was unbearable! I dunno if this was me, paying attention to 2nd character than ML but I think, FL and 2nd character had more memories than the couple hehe. I found it quite unfair for the 2nd character to do all for the FL but the FL always takes it lightly (not that she intentionally did that, I think that's how it works for a person who is in love--I dunno). I'm forever rooting for 2nd character like this!

Many characters change their personality as the story proceeds. Most of them were annoying at first but became better as the eps ran.

The ending? Net says it's a happy ending. For me, it is not. nyhahha that's the bitter side for me. At the last 5 eps, I can't help but feel annoyed by FL. Annoyed to the situation she only thinks one way because that's the only way. In my perspective, this kind of sacrifice shows selfishness instead of being selfless. It's like, she was blinded by that hope that her life would save everyone and started to disregard the pain and bitter taste it left to people who loved her. That's not a better ending for me. People who were left behind will live in an empty void and the last will cannot prevent that (demanding they should live a happy life and such).

But overall, I like the process they had. The characters were awesome in a way they grew for the worse or for the better.

Don't worry, I wont spoil it for those of you who haven't watched it yet. I just happened to notice a lot of reviews saying that they didn't like the open/sad ending. Now they're heartbroken.

To those of you who only want to see a happy ending: don't worry it's a happy ending, I'll explain it below. First, watch the series and then come back for this review. Don't cry!

*SPOILER*
It is understandable that many people are confused about the ending. One thinks that Yun Xi is dead and the Duke is imagining her on the peach blossom field. The other one thinks she's alive because of the bracelet.

the thing is; this drama is based off of a novel and in the novel she survives, because of the power inside the bracelet. She survived it, but QX Shao tells the Duke that she died. He did that out of jealousy- he wanted to fool him. Yun Xi, however, goes to the Han family to recover from her wounds and then is taken by QX Shao to the Plum fields. He does not want to let her go and Yun Xi rests assured, knowing that her husband will definitely visit the fields and find her. And he does. That's why it's a happy ending.

The only scene that I can't explain, is the one where Shao cries over Yun Xi and tells her he has put her blood in the herb valley. He must've known that the person who took the bracelet from him, was Yun Xi's sister, otherwise he wouldn't have looked at the person with a smile, right? I think this is where the novel clashed with the drama. It caused quite a bit of confusion.

Hope I healed a few broken hearts out there, make sure to read the novel online!

Would have been better

if they had focused the story on the gu-abetted men and make it a real drama instead of a “romantic” comedy. I find the FL, and a couple more female characters, to be annoyingly immature, mostly acting like she’s 12, giggling, running around. Looks like she quickly forgot she was looking for her mother.

ML is fine playing the cold face prince hiding a secret. I thought his shadow guard Xifeng did a better acting job.

The 2nd male lead, Gu Qi Shao was interesting enough, cunning and planning.

I thought the story would be more interesting but it’s already kind of dragging. I’m not sure if I’ll finish watching the whole story.

I was in awe when I watched the first episode and I was completely hooked by the second. Legend of Yun Xi was really enjoyable and the amazing cast was a cherry on top. The main leads were adorable together and the story was quite interesting as well; the sad part was the ending which I guess was inevitable and you should prepare yourself for it. The story didn’t drag for the most part, and will not disappoint. The ost of this drama was a plus point and really suited the mood and story. To conclude I’d like to say that this drama is wonderful and will surely capture your heart.

Wait, a nude scene...in a C-drama?

This is first historical C-drama that I watched in which there were nude scenes, and I was shocked. It totally caught me by surprise lol. Hu Bing who played Tian Hui Di is a hottie. He looks like he could be brothers with Ethan from Legend of Fu Yao.

The storyline is actually really good, although it's very similar to most Chinese historical dramas that I've watched.

What I did not like is the Ou Yang Ning Jing character (not the actress). She bullied, harassed and forced herself upon the character Chu Xi Feng, although he told her several times that he wasn't interested in her. No means no! This drama could have def. done without their story. Additionally, I find the cold guy acting (meaning the acting skills of the male leads when they are supposed to be aloof and cold) in C & K-dramas very strange. The director could have kept the cold guy persona, but had the male lead character Long Fei Ye act cold through his words and actions, and not via hs facial expression which looks like he just seen a ghost. Also, I just hate in C-dramas how after a couple gets married they are basically asexual, c'mon now! I'm not saying that they should be having sex in every scene or even show sex scenes, but it would be nice to show the married couples in bed together, thus, alluding that they've been intimate.

I will give the first 14 episodes a rating of an 8.5. I will update this review after I finish watching the whole drama.
