DRAMA REVIEW Coffee Prince

I watched several dramas before this but this might be the first drama that had me smiling, crying, angry, all in good way.

The Story: 9.5
The typical square-love story we had in dramas was made interesting when the main guy falls for someone who he thinks is also a guy.

The story is about Go Eun-chan, a hardworking breadwinner of her family, who acts as the boyfriend of chaebol Choi Han-kyul and soonafter work at his flower boy coffee shop. Choi Han-kyul is a third-gen chaebol of a food company established by his grandmother. He is irresponsible and all so when his family asked him to find a suitable wife, he went around showing people that he is gay by hiring “boyfriend” Go Eun-chan. Go Eun-chan has a crush on Choi Han-kyul’s cousin, Choi Han-sung. While Choi Han-kyul has a long-term one-sided crush on his cousin’s ex-girlfriend, Han Yoo-joo. Yeah, it’s complicated. Ha ha.

I love how each of the characters were given their own stories to tell and that each character made this whole coffee prince universe a more colorful and lovable place. There were times in the story that will really make you feel good and sometimes tear your heart apart. And in each of that moment, each character gave more meaning to it. It felt like this is not just a drama to watch but a real story to tell. The story is sometimes lighthearted, heartbreaking, but most times, heartwarming as coffee.

The Cast: 9.5
I adore Yoon Eun-hye here. I first watched her in Princess Hours and she definitely is the most feminine kind of feminine. It's amazing how she give life to our hardworking Go Eun-chan.

And Gong-yoo is sooo amazing in his role as Choi Han-kyul. He is kind of the manly man for me so whenever he grins and smiles childishly at Eun-chan, I just melt. He is my forever love.

I even love Chae Jung-an and Lee Sun-kyun here in their roles, This may also be the first show in Korea where flower boys are gathered into one coffee shop. Even the older characters are adorable here and you understand where they are coming from. Sometimes even if the characters something unlikable, I still love them.

Music: 9.5
Having a music producer as one of the characters of this drama sort of automatically calls for an amazing music in this drama. Needless to say, I love the music here. I love almost every song in their Original Soundtrack and I still do remember the songs.

Rewatch Value: 9.5
By now, I am not sure how many times I have rewatched this but the emotions I felt have not yet changed. I still laugh at those funny moments, cry at those hurtful times, and feel kilig for our main couple.

The drama is not that old but this is a classic for me. It was kind of the first love I had for dramas.

OMG. So this was my first ever drama. I watched it a couple years but I always somehow go back to it. So, I love the gender bender. It's the reason I hunt for gender benders now >.< I think it was unique when it first came out and I think it really shaped how some gender benders are now. It's also not too cheesy (for me) and I think it's the perfect amount of romance to satisfy :b

Coffee Prince (2007) - this one is aired in our local network GMA that is why I was not that hooked with this drama when it aired on TV since I find the dubbing horrible.

I did watched the Korean version of this one since almost all recommended this drama. Eventually it has a different editing than what is what I usually see in other dramas, I find the pacing so hard to understand. I find it hard to connect the storyline since there are somewhat missing parts, which is the style of the editing of this drama.

The drama is cute, fun and light hearted. Yoon Eun Hye did really great as someone pretending to be a guy, I acknowledged that.

Mixed feelings - Do not eat while watching

I know this is a beloved classic, but for me this is very hard to rate because I have very mixed feelings about it.

My first impression was: gross! I'm sorry, but so many scenes in this drama are seriously off-putting. And it already begins gross in the first scene with Eun Chan having a super gross eating contest against Min Yeop. It actually made me physically sick. And these off-putting scenes continue throughout the whole drama. Eun Chan always eats like a pig - even eating tofu from the floor, and smearing food all over her face, people cleaning their feet WHILE at the table with other people (and then using the same washcloth to wash their face), sucking toes, eating used gum that was stuck to the window, shaking out socks over food, talking about earwax, etc. I honestly don't understand why this drama had to be so gross. I learned the hard way, that you should NOT be eating while watching this drama because you will loose your appetite.

Was it to show how "manly" Eun Chan is? I don't understand why "manly" has to be gross. You shouldn't make the viewers feel disgusted. Talking about Eun Chan, she was super obnoxious and over the top. Always yelling and being offended, being gross and unreasonable. I don't think anyone would fall in love with a person like that, if she was real. I seriously hated her for the first 8 episodes. Kudos to Yoon Eun Hye, though, she really didn't shy away from anything for this role.

I barely enjoyed anything about the first 8 episodes and had to force myself over the span of several months to continue watching. But then episodes 9 - 12 were absolutely brilliant. Mostly because of Gong Yoo. His acting was superb and the way he portrayed his character questioning his sexuality and finally admitting it to himself and Eun Chan, only to then be crushed by betrayal and being confused by his feelings all over again, was outstanding. I've watched a bunch of cross-dressing dramas that follow a similar trope and so far, his portayal was by far the best.

I'll admit it, I fell deeply in love with Gong Yoo in this drama. Before this, he was just another somewhat cool actor that I'd seen in a few dramas but now? I am a fan!!

After episode 12 it then sadly lost some of the magic again and was very predictable and fluffy. But at this point, I had fallen so deeply for Gong Yoo, that I didn't really care and was content with just admiring him (and sometimes pausing the drama to stare at him for longer).

So, what should I conclude... Gong Yoo was brilliant, four episodes were brilliant, but I was grossed out a lot and hated the female lead.

I thought the drama was slow to pick up but around episode 10 it started to and it got enjoyable. It wasn't as action packed or as dramatic as most of the dramas I've watched, but I like it and the ending was cute. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something casual and lighthearted, as the usual big elements common in dramas were a bit lacking. I probably wouldn't rewatch it myself though because I prefer dramas that are more in depth and have more going on. The plot was good, but I think they could have added more to it. I still liked it though.

I picked this drama the other day when I was bored, and I didn't regret it. It was fun and entertaining for quite a while, and the chemistry, or rather, the connection between the main leads was the most realistic I've seen so far...in this type of a drama, that is. There's much of humour and yet serious business mixed in, and each episode keeps you glued to the screen. However, I must say that near the end it got a bit repetitive, but since it is a 'slice of life' type of a tale, I guess that's forgiven. Cast was lovable, cheeky, story itself sometimes annoying, but all in all, it's a good drama. I'm not sure if I'd watch it again, but I've enjoyed it.

If you like k-dramas, then its already too late that you missed coffee prince. so don't think twice.. better start now.

Anyways here is my cup of sharing the same 'awesome, cute, blah blah.(sorry I can't help writing a review for this)

First of all, this is the first k-drama that I didn't find boring or dragging at any place. Everybody believing a girl to be a boy (that too a slender girl with hairless face and female voice) is kinda too much. But believe me, it is way cuter to think like 'haan.. it will not happen in reality'. We will just end up thinking it will be good if something like this happens for real. Unlike some dramas, not a lead actor or lead actress is annoying. Nobody has overacted. Even I did not want to give it a try at first because I find it boring to see the same kinda female lead who is poor but cheerful, everybody around her adores her and besides the male lead, there will always be one more poor fellow falling for her and be ready to do anything to her. Although this drama has similar touch in it, it is enjoyable.

Every character is awesome and its cute that everybody has their own little story. I always thought that Lee dong wook will be my all time favorite actor, gosh I can't believe I like Gong yoo better than him. His acting skills are amazing and I can't figure out why he is not as famous as many other average actors.

At first i was not sure about this drama. I saw it had a lot of good reviews but it did not appeal to me. However, once i started watching it i could not stop, i was done with the drama in like 3 days :)

Story: Although it was your typical poor girl rich boy fall in love concept it was pure masterpiece. I mean the story did not drag out completely each episode was just great.

Cast: each character was just hilarious in their own way, i was not bored even once, there was not a character i hated (unlike some dramas)

Music: Although it used mostly Western music it suited each seen very well

Rewatch: YES YES YES YES YES

I just found out this RIP to Lee un who played Hwang Min Yeop, it was a very unfortunate accident . :(

I have to say this is one of my favorite dramas.
While the basic plot line of the story has been done many times before (girl poses as a guy) Coffee Prince executed it in a new and refreshing way. The acting was WONDERFUL, I seriously began to believe that this was a real story and not just a drama. The actors were great and gave really good reactions to the situation even if they weren't the main characters in the scene (which doesn't happen a lot in other dramas). The music was interesting and they didn't play the same five songs over and over again, they kept in new and fresh while still keeping a couple ones that you'll be able to recognize.
I have to say though that my favorite part of the whole drama was the lack of angst. Angst is one of my biggest issues in dramas, and while a little bit is good for a story I keep seeing dramas overuse it so much i just wanna punch the screen/stop watching. An example of this would be Issues/Misunderstandings the characters have with one another. In any other drama while being accused of doing something they did not do, a character would just stand there and take it and NOT explain the truth or their side of the story which would solve everything. BUT in Coffee Prince all the characters are adults who aren't immature and impulsive. they make decisions based on rational thought rather than their fleeting emotions. if they have a problem with someone, they confront that person to try and solve their disputes rather than wasting 4 episodes beating around the bush just to clear up one measly misunderstanding.
Once again the acting was just top notch, super believable with scenes that seemed real and flowed as if they were actually happening. Only one or two scenes in the whole drama seemed a tad bit forced (but maybe i'm just being picky)
The lead male character is just to die for and does the best acting out of all of them. You just wanna open your heart to him cause he is hard not to love

This was my first and favorite drama ever, so I apologize if I sound biased. ^^

However, even when I watch it again now, it still stands the test of time and is my favorite drama. The cast is wonderful and great and the story line is really refreshing. After watching more dramas, I realize a lot of the girls are reeallyy girly, clingy, and sometimes annoying. The heroine in this drama is completely the opposite. Definitely a fantastic, refreshing, and fun drama if you're looking for something lighthearted and wonderful.

Also, the ending of a drama really matters to me. I won't post any spoilers, don't worry! I just feel the need to say that the ending is fantastic. A lot of dramas either cram a lot into the last few minutes of the episode and doesn't give us any closure or finish tying up loose strings. This one definitely did a fantastic job at making sure every person you fall in love with in the drama has their story told. ^^

10/10!

Even though it's taken a year for me to finish, that by no means diminishes how I feel about Coffee Prince. I picked this drama up after You're Beautiful because I've always enjoyed gender benders.

Coffee Prince did not disappoint at all. The story took me on an emotional rollercoaster just like it takes its characters. The romance is beautiful and I love how it was handled--that issues weren't glossed over, but solved and thought through, just like in real life.

I can't say enough about the cast. They are amazing; all the pairings have great chemistry, both female/male romance and the friendships. Each character plays off the other; without one, the dominoes of this drama would possibly fall. I've fallen in love with this cast and hope that they act together sometime in the future.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Coffee Prince, and it will always have a special place in my heart. I will certainly rewatch this again and again. :D

I don't often watch these kinds of dramas because they're frustrating and sometimes annoying. But this one was priceless.

Go Eun Chan is not a girl pretending to be a guy, she is naturally like that. A complete tomboy. And Han Kyul is not only a chaebol, he's someone with a warm heart.

This drama captivates viewers essentially because of the romance. There are a lot of skinship moments, but the best thing is their love. It's amazing the things he does for her. (This is the moment I realize I'll die single. Not many men can compete with him T_T)

I recommend this to anyone! Watch it, you won't regret it. It's nice, has good actors and it's also funny.
