Both are incredible Japanese dramas that focus on a gay couple in the most sweetest and wholesome way possible.

The biggest similarity is the fact that both dramas have no toxic tropes at all and are instead realistic and respectful in their depiction of a gay couple in Japanese society. The couple isn't fetishised at all and can be seen as positive representatives in normalising LGBTQ+ content.

The biggest difference would be that Cherry Magic focusses on the couple falling in love while KNT depicts the couple's everyday life living together.

It is not a simple thing to like someone, because... many times, we dare not say anything! "If first place is the only way to make you see me, then I will never lose to you before you fall in love with me." Zhou Shu Yi stared at the class report and saw Gao Shi De’s name above him again. He didn’t understand. He had always ranked second ever since Gao Shi De came into his life. For this reason, he was excited to go to college and parted ways. He hoped to never see Gao Shi De again. In college, he joined the swimming club and was revered by everyone. He was happily enjoying college life until Gao Shi De suddenly appeared at the swimming competition during their senior year. This made him wonder why Gao Shi De always followed him wherever he went. But little did he know that Gao Shi De had eyes for him and would never let him go.

Both shows put a strong focus on the preparation of one specific dish per episode. There is a bit more actual plot to Kinou Nani Tabeta? but I think the food part still plays a major role.

Both focus on adults/young adults and portray LGBT relationships in a more realistic, non-fetishized way, touching on real issues and portraying real lives (or as close to real as a drama can get).

Two very warm dramas that focus on food and cooking for each other and how food can be a wonderful love language between a couple. Both dramas bring comfort and joy between two people who share a love for food as well as a love for each other. These dramas feel like home.

Although both dramas have a different story and plot, they have three very big similarities.

The first one is that both shows depict a non-toxic gay relationship in a respectful way with no fetishisation.

The second similarity is that within this gay relationship, one of them is confident in their sexuality and is not afraid to hide it whereas the other is a bit more self-conscious and does not feel as if they are ready to be 'out' in public.

This then leads to the third similarity, where the couple navigates through societal issues to better understand one another.

Both are great and if you love one, you'll most likely enjoy the other :)

Both couples bond through meals and cooking, and at the same time they tell a realistic story of LGBTQ+ couples in Japan. Tsukuritai Onna to Tabetai Onna is sweeter and slow burn, Kinou Nani Tabeta is more humorous and the main characters are already living together. They're both worth watching, very comforting and healing! <3
