A refreshingly honest coming of age story.

Youth is a nostalgic coming of age story that follows a group of friends from their teen years to twenties. It was honest and thorough, and not everyone gets an immediately happy ending with a bow tied on it, which I loved. The plot is nothing terribly new, but the relationships within making the viewing experience an easy and pleasant one.

The main focus is on that of Su Can Can, her friendships, and how she navigates everyday life and romance. There is a love triangle, but it is done well. The romance is lovely, gradual, and really shows the process of growing up. This is not the drama where everybody gets things perfectly, skating into the finish line at the last minute. There are tears, countless failed attempts, uncertainty, and sacrifice. But there are also smiles, laughter, support, and beautiful memories. Youth did a job well done in capturing the growing pains of getting older and figuring out life.

The acting was good, the OST was decent (I expected a little bit more from a drama focusing so much on music), and the couples were cute. The main couple had such lovely chemistry, and it made me super happy to see that there was no jerk lead in this one. Only (save for the occasional mishap) wholesome and thoughtful relationships here folks. Also, there were no annoying or hateful characters to create drama and I loved that.

All in all, this was an extremely easy and pleasant watch. I definitely recommend if you're looking for something light and nostalgic with very light angst.

It is an OK kinda of youth story in which the main characters transitions from school to college to adults. Nothing out of the ordinary just usual normal day to day scenarios. ML is tsundere type who is annoyed at everything the FL does but secretly loves her. I actually started to watch this show because of this trope I saw in a YouTube clip.

SPOILER AHEAD...

This plot actually runs quite into the second half of the show but what made me drop it was the way the handled the transition of them them being love-hate bickering friends to lovers in a single episode without proper prelude!

Like the FL was still shown to be somewhat in love with the Second Male lead until a moment ago before she decides to go to the First ML. Even that actually looked like she is just choosing to join him for the concert without the implied meaning of choosing him as her Boyfriend or anything... But then all of a sudden she agrees to go on a date with him as she has lost the tickets to the concert which they were supposed to go. And then she is also ready to spend the night with him alone after that in a deserted beach and also wakes up to a steamy kiss, all in that very same day?! How ridiculous!
I mean imagine going to a concert with a friend and waking up next day to a steamy kiss on a beach ?! Where's the story development for which we actually watch the drama for? It all went past like a rocket in a blink of the eye! So unsatisfactory...

I really wanted to see her slow realization that the person who is really perfect for her is the first ML and then their romance to begin but this was totally blahhh... So rushed and totally off putting at least for me... And what was worse was after that there wasn't a hint of bickering, it just became too sappy for a long time and then the usual plot twista of going abroad and all that usual C drama stuff...

Acting wise, even though I found the Male lead really handsome, I think his reactions need to be improved... His confession to the FL and all his lovey dovey actions don't seem believable because of his facial reactions... It's like he's set his face in 'I don't like you' mode but his character has progressed to 'I can't live without you' mode... But I must admit, the kiss scenes were really good! ;D

Another person whose acting was off was the Music teacher. He seemed really miscast imo. Something was really odd about that character...

Well overall, I would rate it 7/10 for its cute 1st half.

Very easy to watch drama, as the episodes are short and crisp, and the cast are excellent, especially the male lead, Zhao Yi Qin ( watch out for him in other shows). The supporting actresses are also cute and likable. Main actress overacts a little, and I don't like the character ( sometimes too stupid to believe ). Each phase of their youth are captured well, and not draggy. They go through 3 years of high school a 2 years of Uni within 12 episodes. Total of 24 episodes, so will end next week. Will review if ending is worthwhile.

I am one episode short before I finish this series.

I like how the story unfolded for all the characters. The story or the main leads is somehow realistic to what really happens in long distance relationships. But of course this is a drama. Happy ending is needed.

I also like the way the story about the online chat mates/gamers becoming a couple it was a thing way back when lols makes it so relatable.

How I wish Yating would end up with someone after all the heartache of a one sided love.

Overall, the music is okay. The acting is okay except for the female lead in HS years. I guess she found it awkward acting younger than she is but in university onwards her acting improved.

I will rewatch this when all eps are subbed. It's a feel good series. Relatable stories that could bring back memories.

An overrated drama

Till 19-20 episodes it was okay but after that I felt like the director is forcing me to feel something, and I felt like he has amnesia because I think in last episode the FL says to her friends that she still has feelings for her ex-boyfriend but she is confused whom to accept when her old crush proposed her. Unnecessary random and reckless break ups and again reconciling each other felt so immature or poor execution, this made this drama weaker in the end episodes. From starting to end the director failed to portray the love triangle effectively, he tried to confuse us about the love triangle but in the end he only got confused how to execute it.
After watching so many Chinese dramas I really couldn’t understand one thing that, after break up the FL leads her life in a normal way like nothing has happened and she can accept another person in her life but why the ML couldn’t do the same, he keeps on thinking about her and he couldn’t accept anyone else and becomes totally mental patient.

Another great Chinese drama

I really liked the story, Chinese dramas executes love story well and this is one of the examples of it. I watched it a long time ago that's why I can't remember some of the details but I really loved the show because I followed the artists after I completed the drama. Acting was so-so, but the story was great, but recently, I find the male lead always going outside the country in every Chinese drama but that's just a small nitpick. The story portrays relationship well and how can relationship last, some scenes were sad especially when the female lead lost the necklace that the male lead gave her.

My highlight of the drama is that one song that really sticks out for me which is Find Your Way Home, it's a really great song, that's the most memorable thing in the drama for me.

This drama is a must watch if you like to watch light hearted drama

I hope you guys give this drama a try, you won't regrets.
I've heard about this drama after watching my girl in 2020, but I didn't give it a try at that time because I'm not into youth / school drama. 2 years later, I saw it on Netflix and give it a try. Damn, I nearly missed a gem. This drama is worth watching. The actor and actress are all handsome and pretty. I like every role in this series and I love how their friendship is not toxic. They showed how each one of them pursued their own dream and hold on to their friendship even after finishing highschool and moving to another city. And importantly the love story of every couple ❤️❤️❤️

It's fun to watch such a great storyline and amazing skilled actor.

Sorry for my bad English, it's not my first language.

Beautiful well written Coming Age Drama

I watched this long back ago, Thought of giving review now
This is a good, beautiful coming age drama. Story of group of teenagers from high school to their work life. I felt like I was growing with them while watching this. Loved the equations between them. Then chemistry between the main leads was awesome. I still remember their names and how they call each other even though its been a howl since I watched this. Lin tian ye and su can can <3 . This drama is so touching , funny , cute and romantic. For someone who is currently working in a cooperate field , when I watched this I felt so nostalgic , I could feel their tensions, chasing dreams , the friendship, the worries . This drama made me feel so nostalgic.

China has been always good with such dramas, they have the best school dramas which we can relate and feel their innocence
- Awesome chemistry
- Good story
- Good Music

This is a must watch !

It was a slow start in the first episode and I was hesitant because I wasn't too much of a fan of Li Jiaqi in Meteor Garden, but she definitely delivered as Su CanCan in Wait My Youth. I loved Zhao Yiqin in Accidentally in Love even though I didn't like the show as a whole, but this solidifies it and it was great to see him as a main lead playing a character similar to YiYang.

I didn't like that they had TYT and LGZ together at the end. It would have made sense for them to end up together earlier on since they had so much in common.

In school dramas, I have yet to see much passion put into the kisses but the chemistry between Yiqin and Jiaqi is just so sweet and real. It really made me squirm and squeal to see their interactions. It was also a sweet love story to see their progression into a friendship and into a romance, especially seeing Tianye's love and care grow and CanCan letting go of her crush of seven years for something more.

This show does a great job at doing a throwback with the music that was up and coming at the time, and then moving onto the popular phones at the time. It was very nostalgic to see the stereos and audio cassette players/Walkmans that they used. It was especially heartbreaking to see that Su CanCan's dad who runs an audio cassette shop go out of business because he couldn't compete with how music was becoming more accessible, but it also warmed my heart to see that Tianye and CanCan both pursued their love for music in the industry itself.

I highly recommend it and will be doing a rewatch of this, because I cannot seem to let the main leads go.

Cute Highschool/College drama

At first I was put off by FL because I didn’t like her hairstyle and I was unsure of her being a lead because my impression of her was from Metero garden 2018. But she did prove me wrong with her acting skills!
I remembered ML from Accidentally in Love and I remembered him because he was even more handsome than the ML in that.
ML’s bestfriend I remember from The love equation. He is definitely more attractive here.
The story overall is pretty good. I must say that the first half is pretty slow (like literally barely any progression in terms of romance). But things progress at a better phase in the 2nd 1/2.
ML and FL ‘s chemistry is really good especially during their high school scenes! They were really funny!
A light hearted drama to watch!

Brilliant

This drama literally made me cry. I cried so much watching this drama that my eyes were literally swollen. Anybody who likes high school/college drama or cute love story, I would definitely recommend watching it. If anybody had watched “Just an encore”. This drama is a little similar to that. But I prefer this over Just an Encore. Looking at the main lead of “my girl” again pairing up in this drama makes it even better. Though I feel a little bad for Li Geyang who was the second lead. He was the second lead in “The Love Equation” as well. That fact pained even more. The poor guy is getting hurt in both the dramas

Drama

Oh my gosh this drama is amazing. At first I didn’t want to watch it but my friend forced me and I’m so glad she did. It’s a love triangle basically and an awesome one at that. It has you on the edge of your seat and you can’t stop watching it. It’s romantic and easy going at the same times. I thought I wouldn’t find such a good drama after Meteor Garden but I did. I couldn’t stop watching it because it was too intriguing. I have watched tones of youth dramas and all of them have basically the same plot but this one had a little twist to it. The acting was really good and the music as well.
