this drama start so slow. okay let's say it's over all slow drama they force that "we are warm" "that place is warm and people who live in there are warm" in your face in the start with some poems here and there. but honestly that was the weak point in the drama.. but i some how end up enjoying it
if we look in the drama after that warm push, it start give us good story with nice characters. i was surprised that they have good back ground to the characters and why they are like this but they didn't push it on the start instead the push the warm feel that i don't buy..
Honestly i was ready to drop they drama in ep2 but i loved Eunsub character so cute and warm not the usual lead , if not for him i would have drop this for sure especially i'm not fan of the FL acting but then i'm glad i didn't because i love Eunsub back story and the story of the sisters (the FL mom and aunt ) that they tell so late on the show. another weak point to the writer if you have good story use it well.
ah if you going to watch this for Jae Wook don't!!! he appear for 2 min every ep i hate this the most they have a lot of time that he could use but they use it on stupid things.

acting was good for me this is kang joon best acting , as usual Park Min Young just act the same that's why i'm not fan for her.
Music was nice but the osts are forgettable.
over all i don't count it as bad drama

I love love loved this, the simple healing slow winter mood was perfect. the couple dynamics was beautiful, but I think they failed to balance that and the "melo" feel..

when the drama started we had a looming dark cloud. Mok Hae Won left the city to "get away" from something traumatizing, and Im Eun Sub had a "dark" past, but as the drama progressed both stories felt too simple?

Mok Hae Won story was that her workplace didn't appreciate/mistreated her and Im Eun Sub's parents weren't his real parents.
also, when we finally reached Im Eun Sub's arc, he just met his uncle and made it seem like he's being forced to leave the village and he had to make a big decision, either he leaves or Mok Hae Won would leave him becasue apparently just becasue she lived in the city for a while it meant that she isn't supposed to be able to choose to stay..

then fast forward to the end, and suddenly she breaks up with him and moves to the city, as if they couldn't keep it long distance until she figured out her own "feelings" with her mom/aunts arc... as if her problems was with him ;/

speaking of the mom/aunt. from the mom's letter in the last ep, it seems like the husband was beating her for atleast 10 years, and yet Mok Hae Won was still upset that he was accidentally killed (also, why couldn't they just talk it out! lay everything on the table), sure she loved her sweet dad, but he was a psychopath, and they didn't mean to kill him...
and this is why I think it gets messy, the writers didn't balance it well, they got greedy for melo and forced breakups..

I loved the book club meetings, but again it felt like most of those characters were just fillers.
Im Hwi was kinda really annoying, she forced her crush on people, that's not normal. of course they'll run away.. she was kinda the opposite of Im Eun Sub who kept his feelings hidden for 10+ years xD
but this is what I liked about Mok Hae Won x Im Eun Sub. sure the long time crush might get weird, but when they met again he was subtle about his care, and Mok Hae Won naturally fell for his sweet caring side.
and she was such a normal person in a relationship while Im Eun Sub was the easily flustered type and they made a sweet couple.

Lee Jang Woo was wasted potential. he was a normal friend not involved in a main love triangle, he had a normal beautiful friendship with Im Eun Sub. he was kinda the outgoing vr of Im Eun Sub. and he also had his own 10+ one sided crush and he was too good for that girl. unlike Mok Hae Won, she knew Lee Jang Woo liked her consistently ever since they were in highschool and she always teased him about that, while never actually looking at him, and it took her 0.1 seconds to suddenly "fall" in love ;/ and then she blamed him for not saying those things the 1st time he confessed ;/

anyway, the ost was nice and I never rewatch stuff :)

Some dramas are disliked due to its silliness. Some are disliked because it stroke a wrong but true cord in our heart. That is how I feel when watching this drama, the later one.

Watching Hae Won felt like watching myself being made into a show. Her coldness, her silliness, her stubborness, her love toward Eun Seob and her family, and her pride hit a little close to home. That's the reason why I don't really like her and criticize her misdeeds so much. I can see myself doing the same thing. Well, except that love scene, that is too irresponsible for me. Everyone here felt like a dream, except her. They don't show any flaw, at all, even the mother and the aunt. She is the most human out of everyone, because everyone else behave so reasonable and according to moral values so much.

But actually, that is just my rant because her character became a really selfish person in the last 4 episodes. When everything is revealed and we can see how she reacted. So, watch at your own risk.

There are plot holes of course. Ones that I think are major plot holes, but alrighty then, Writer-nim. It can be assumed what actually happened in those gap of knowledge, although it doesn't feel satisfying.

The pacing was just per-fect. Some may say it was awfully slow, but that's its charm. Enjoy this with a cup of hot tea or any beverages that you like. Better in a snowy or rainy night. And sleep when you feel content and enough. Then, repeat on the next day!

The cinematography and music is straight above the standard. They made me fall in love the first time. It felt like, you know, watching those ASMR daily life or cooking channel on youtube that has calm music and beautiful pictures. Also, I've said this but, you can really study using this drama as a white noise. Well, just skip the chaotic parts, which were so few. And what can we really say about the acting, except that it is perfect. Everyone played their role remarkably well.

I would say, people should rewatch this for its moral value, for its beautiful scenes and sounds, for its happiness and calmness that people would feel, and for its quotes and beautiful sayings.

Somehow relaxing

I'm glad I had a change of heart and watched this drama. While there were a few things I would have changed, overall I ended up really enjoying it mostly. The pace is slow but it has a relaxing feeling. I so loved the feeling of the community and the ordinary lives of the characters. And yet, there was also some underlying seriously dark issues that the drama dealt with, while still maintaining a warmth that kept me coming back.

PMY and SKJ were wonderfully cast as the leads and had a surprisingly palpable chemistry. The showed their acting chops as they both had to convey a lot of emotion sometimes with little dialogue.

The music was lovely, and fit the mood of the show well.

Don't miss the epilogue for each episode where the ML writes a bit in his journal. It's probably the biggest insight into his mind that you'll get! :)

I would definitely recommend for people that can handle slower paced dramas and/or slice of life style shows. But not if you prefer constant action or big dramatic scenes.

A Cup Of Tea On A Cold Winters Morning

This is a light and healing drama with some touch of serious notes. Warning: If you're sensitive to relationship abuse, you might want to steer clear or at least skip through some scenes on this as it does deal with those kind of issues.

The storyline was lovely and very much a slow burn on this. It focuses on the two main character's and their developing romance, but also follows other characters on their walk through life. I experienced some very lovely warm feelings from watching as the relationships and romance played out on the screen. It does get quite serious at times, but the story is more about finding your own happiness and not living your life according to other peoples expectations. Love yourself and look for your happiness continually instead of getting lost in societal pressures. Also, community is everything. I do wish the ending was a little less open ended, but not every story gets wrapped up with perfect bows, so it wasn't too much of a concern.

The acting was spot on. I didn't cry much in this, which was exactly what I was looking for, but there were many smiles and laughs watching WTWIF. Everything conveyed is so genuine, that sometimes when the characters are only looking at each other or acting without words, I felt the emotions through the screen. It was highly pleasant and enjoyable to watch.

The music is very pretty and soothing. Not the main focus for sure, but it helped heavily in setting the mood in many scenes.

All in all, I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a break from heavy dramas and want something soothing to the soul and mind. It was a slow developing drama, but at sixteen episodes, I thought it was paced well and very enjoyable. It left me with a nice warm feeling after watching it.

Super sweet but also way too easy going??

This kdrama is perfect to watch in the winter. Is just so so sweet! Loved the simplicity of the romance, and how sweet they were to each other. I guess, it's the type of love story that makes people want to fall in love. But with that being said, for the level of trauma these characters have everything went by pretty easily. A few bumps here and there, but overall an easy going story.

The story with that uncle just ended abruptly even though i thought some other type of closure should've happen. Also thought the full story about Eun Sub being abandoned would be explored in a different way later on. And how terribly fucked up it was that Hae Won ended up abandoning him in the same place his mother did (yes she was also severely hurt but that's just so wrong in so many levels)... Like the perfect man he is, he is very accepting of her departure, he was always expecting it, and never ever cries or feels any kind of frustration about it. She ends up coming back on her own terms and on the day of his mother's death, she decides to run towards his car to ask for a hug, cause she just couldn't wait any longer... and he, again, like the sweetest human being that he is, ends up smiling and accepting her right away. idk... perhaps way too perfect. she could've left him a thousand times and he would just be there waiting for her with a soft smile, a coffee and a book on his hand, and that doesn't sit well with me somehow.

this kdrama is indeed good for it's lighthearted and sweet moments, but fails to marry the traumatic past lifes with the sweet and easy going romance. this show either needed way more episodes or it's just too easy going.

Quick shout out to the wonderful actress that played Im Hwi and the actor that played Jang Woo for making me genuinely laugh so much! Such genuine characters and crazy good actors!

This show is sweet, cozy, and endlessly warm. It's quiet, humble, and quaint. You can't help but cheer for these characters. Plus, it is an absolute feast for the eyes and the ears. Truly beautiful cinematography and landscapes, and even better music. I felt like I was in a video game like Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing. Half the time, it was like ASMR in drama-form.

The story gets such a middling review from me because it is really slow. I found myself falling asleep in the middle of episodes a LOT. I suppose this is good if you're looking to relax, but it also meant that some parts were honestly just a bit boring.

Eun Seop is gentle and sturdy. Where can I find an Eun Seop in my life? I understand completely how Hae Won feels warm when she is with him. Plus, Seo Kang Joon's EYES! They are a window to the soul. And I would be remiss not to mention how lovely it was to see Eun Seop and Hae Won smile. Both of them have killer smiles that "light up the whole world," and were rare enough for me to revel in the moments they appeared.

The supporting cast is loving and wonderful as well. I didn't grow up in a small town, but I understand the charm —  especially as Jang Woo explained his life choices at the end. And I want to bundle up Seung Ho and take him with me. Hwi, her friend, and the LED light guy weren't my favourites, but that's okay.

Finally, this review would be incomplete if I didn't mention the masterful performance of the sisters. Their story was so important, and they played their parts well. I just wish we got more confirmation that they were taking care of themselves by the end. But as much as these women were fearless and portrayed important things, my favourite part was revelling in the sweet moments between Hae Won and Eun Seop. I can see myself revisiting their scenes together for a long time.

garbage

I am on episode 15 at 51 minutes and 31 seconds and the FL is telling the ML that she is leaving. After he making a big deal of confessing her love to him and making him go along with her love bullshit. The ML even said everyone leaves. His uncle said it too but he went against his gut and experience for her. After this is when i decided to read spoilers and found this:

"Ok good movie BUT, The lead actress takes off leaving the boy behind then gets (and this is reason for question) no job offers to play music and has tough time making a living in city, so she decided to go back home, but, not because she loves the boy, that is part I can’t figure out, is she just coming back to play with him till a better job comes around? Plus the aunt leaving left questions to her future, just didn’t seem to fill out the final product..if someone has a better view on these issues please let me know..thanks"

Both are enough to make me drop this dumpster fire of a kdrama!

Exploring happiness through hardships.

When the Weather Is Fine is definitely a well crafted piece of cinematic art, but it’s not made for everyone. I don’t mean it in a snobbish, elitist way, it’s just really clear in what it wants to be, and it does not try to cater to all the viewers - you either take it or leave it, both decisions being equally valid.

It’s an extremely slow paced character driven drama that is much darker than it might initially seem. Hardly any of the characters presented does not face serious problems and issues they have to overcome. It does present a few side stories tho, that can brighten the mood, making sure we won’t get depressed after finishing each episode.

The journey we take while the stories unfold might be sad and frustrating, since many of the characters are rather shielded, slowly learning how to open themselves to the possibility of happiness. It’s not a drama to watch for escapism.

Being perfectly honest, till the last episode, I did not find Hae Won to be a likeable person. She points out everyone's flaws, while not taking a step back to see things from other people's perspective herself. The fact she was so flawed, was exactly why I enjoyed the show so much. Each character presented a completely different perspective on life and relationships - each being right and wrong at the same time, depending on the perspective taken by the viewer.

When the Weather Is Fine is an aesthetic feast. All the shots capture that melancholic and slightly removed from reality feeling - making Bookhyun Village feel like its own world, separate from the fast paced reality we live in. The soundtrack added to that sentimental feeling, making a truly cohesive picture.

That said, it’s not a perfect show. The number of flashbacks was surprising, especially since the majority of them were copy-pasted the same, not presenting alternative perspectives or adding to previously presented events. Another aspect that bothered me was the sharp change of mood between scenes - we went from tragedy to teen slice of life comedy in a matter of seconds. In the end, for some scenes, I was neither able to explore the sadness, nor enjoy the silly happiness of what’s presented - it just clashed too much.

Acting wise, almost flawless. I am not sure if I completely bought Park Min Young’s portrayal of Hae Won. Logically speaking her story was full of sadness, yet I could not feel it on many occasions. I knew it was tragic, but I did not feel it.

Overall, I would recommend it to people who like slow paced, character driven shows. If you prefer fast paced plot driven dramas with many unexpected plot twists and thrilling feeling, you will most likely not enjoy it that much. It’s a bittersweet story that allows us to peek into the lives of the characters, without presenting a sharp beginning nor the end.

Slow but good

This was a really really sloooooow show. BUT it had a lot if heart to the story that kept you wanting to finish it.

Story- I liked the story. It was slow but it played out and finished off nicely. I think I felt sorry the most for the sisters. What they did and had to deal with. It would have been hard for anyone to go through that. The younger sister had a huge weight on her shoulders and now that I know what really happened I can understand her character better. I am glad to see that Hae Won came back to stay. It had a nice ending and did not leave me hanging or wishing for more. I will be honest... I did start to watch it and stopped for a month. I did forget about it so to me it is not a show I would go out of my way to see again. I am not one for slow shows like this.

Acting/cast- Park Min-Young is one of my most favorite actresses. She is very talented. I first saw her in “What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim” (watched twice now) and “Her Private Life” is one of my most favorite shows of all time. She did a great job in this show also. The rest of the cast did a great job.

Rewatch? I don’t know. I would really have to be wanting a slow paced show. I really don’t see that happening again. Lol we will see.

Beautiful Story

An incredibly beautiful drama and story. I enjoyed every single moment of this drama. I loved how it portrayed relationships and how one lives their life. Every character was unique in their own way, and I was engaged in each one of their stories, whether it was the main characters or the supporting characters. Because Eun Seop and Hae won are such raw people with raw emotions, I was able to really engage with them and come to love them. I love their relationship and love how they defined things like warmth, love and happiness. Both characters made me love Park Min Young and Seo Kang Joon even more! I loved each one of the supporting characters, as they brought a light-heartedness to the drama and added even more warmth to it. I especially loved Jang Woo, he's so cute and I think Lee Jae-Wook did an incredible job portraying him!! Myeong Yeo is another character that really made kept me engaged throughout the whole drama, as she was such an interesting character to watch because of who she had become and how she had became that person. The setting was incredible. By the end of the drama, I came to love Hodu House and the Goodnight Bookstore, both places in their own ways reflecting the people that lived in them in, and making the drama very visually appealing to watch. The warmth of the bookstore reflected the warmth in Eun Seop, and the cold feeling that Hodu House gave off, was reflected in Hae Won, and her aunt and mother. Also, the town in which this drama was set in, was an incredible bonus to it, as it very much added to the drama visually. It also added a simplicity to the it that helped us stay grounded in the story that was being told. It made me want to live in a Korean town like that someday, and experience the simple everyday life that the townsfolk got to experience and live in the tight-knit community they lived in . Everything about this drama was wonderful, it made me cry, smile and laugh. It made me feel warm and fuzzy, and gave me hope! I loved everything about it, it was like watching a work of art, one that I am very likely to watch again! <3

it’s like, fine i guess

why is everyone saying that this show is so slow paced?? it really wasn’t. (although things kind of dragged off to useless storylines in the end.) i don’t believe this was a slow burn at all, and believe me, i’ve seen slow burn. episode 8 is early for leads to get together and honestly they went together pretty easily.
about the story, i’ll be short. it was fine, i liked it i guess. nothing was really stand out to me except that of the storyline of hae won’s family, and i think the aunt and the mom were great actresses and had astounding performances.
everything else was like fine, i didn’t care about any of the characters (but that’s just me lol i never care about anyone) but i did like the aunt and jang woo was cute.
honestly if you like cozy sets and sad backstories and useless endings and a lot of other quirky characters you might like this drama.
