Serious crack-tastic drama. It gave me heartache and happiness, twisting my heart into a knot, in good ways and bad in every episode. The best part about Master's Sun is definitely the chemistry everyone's talking about between the leads, Gong Hyo Jin and So Ji Sub. It gave me so many tingly feels.

The ghost story per episode didn't feel too filler to me personally. I enjoyed most of them since they were ways for the romance to develop. Some even had an emotional impact, others left a bit to be desired. There were quite a few flaws regarding the 'rules' about ghosts and their abilities, and the drama did confuse me at times because they weren't consistent. Let me ignore those flaws though! I purposely ignored those flaws and just accepted all the supernatural aspects of the drama as they were shown, which made my drama experience much better. I guess I also have to mention the rich boy, poor girl thing. Yes, you can say that the plot- on the shallowest level- is about that cliche but I think the drama builds off it with many layers.

Though I enjoyed the skinship from the very beginning, they didn't have an effect on me until a few episodes in since there wasn't enough emotional attachment. But when it finally hit me, bam! Wow, I became seriously invested. I love their relationship development so much. Whoops, did I say that already? I enjoyed seeing Joong Won's change as a person and how his sun, Gong Shil, continued to change him, bit by bit. His trust in her just kept growing and that was a pleasure to watch. Their relationship is the anchor of this drama. Without the strength and brightness of it, the drama would've fell apart.

I think if the main leads weren't Gong Hyo Jin and So Ji Sub, I wouldn't love this drama that much. They brought their characters to life and made them seem so realistic. Gong Hyo Jin, as usual, was amazingly touching. Her emotional depth through her character, Tae Gong Shil, sparked in each and every scene.

I liked the second leads. No vindictive second leads! It's always great when the second leads add fun scenes to the drama, and not detract from the drama. I really liked Secretary Kim; he was like the cupid representative of the viewers.

Lets talk about one of the main plot points: Joong Won's tragic past. Was that done well? I'm not sure to be honest. It was amped up for most of the drama, only to be hastily resolved in one episode. From the halfway point, though, I already began to disregard the plot lines and just try to go along with the story. After all, just focusing on their chemistry was must more enjoyable than trying to analyze patchy plot points.

The extension? Personally, I hated it at first because I thought Gong Shil's actions were off par with her character based on previous episodes. In retrospect, I guess I could understand why she did why she did so I can't call it noble idiocy. Nevertheless, I could've done without it, so episodes 13-16 felt like some unnecessary angst. The finale episode was done well though since it was extended, it wasn't rushed. I did like the metaphors integrated throughout the drama. In a way, they helped justify some of the Hong Sister's writing decisions, in my opinion. The metaphors also gave depth to the plot and also the the relationships. Overall, the drama came full circle at the end, so it wrapped up nicely.

The OST is amazing. Every song is perfect. Some songs are hauntingly chilling, others are emotionally touching. I even love the instrumental music, which isn't that often! Every song seamlessly fit in with the scenes.

I already started re-watching some scenes. I will definitely re-watch this. I recommend this for those who love romance like I do, and also isn't a stickler for supernatural 'rules' and how the supernatural world should and should not be. In the end, take don't Master's Sun's plot too seriously and you'll come to love what this drama offers.

Memorable Acting and Plot

So, I watched this waaay back when it just finished air.

To be honest, this is the most memorable drama I ever watched back during my K-Drama obsess years.
Up until today, I can still remember some bit of here and there of the drama. And I did re-watch it earlier this year and I still think this is the best k-drama I watched.

So Ji Sub and Gong Hyo Jin chemistry is amazing and HJ cuteness in this drama is totally lovable and it makes you adore her too.

Let me sum up my review from my memory of 7 years ago and earlier this year:

PLOT
Although the jump scare was just in the first few episodes and it get less scarier as it went into more episodes, it still got me scared whenever I re-watch it. I am a sucker for a cool CEO character and the way he acted cold but secretly protecting her was the best part of the drama. Their romance was not rushed in and it develop nicely throughout the drama.

ACTING/CAST
No one can doubt the skills of both leads. Their chemistry in this drama is amazing that it makes every scene was beautifully made.

MUSIC
I don't really take attention to this. What I can say is the music is not something memorable

REWATCH VALUE
A must!

SUMMARY
Nothing to lose. Try watch it.

A hidden gem

That Show is a hidden gem. I watched it by accident without having heard anything about it before. And I am so glad I did! I enjoyed it tremendously. The main couple acted very well, not overly exaggerated like in some Asian shows. I was always looking forward to visit them and spend time with them over the week I watched this show and was kind of sad when it was finished and I wasn't able to see them anymore. There are two episodes towards the end that were a bit dragging but overall that didn’t matter. Great show.

Does this entail your typical k-drama love story where a wealthy man meets your average woman and fall in love? Yes, yes it does. However, I was still swayed by its charm.

Not someone who goes for the romance-heavy genre, but this one was fun and it tugged at the heart-strings. One of its main strengths here is we have a great lead-couple combination and a well-paced relationship development. The star for me is the male lead. I thoroughly enjoyed his micro-expressions, his way of speech, and never got tired of his get out of my face hand gestures. The female lead had the more obvious and emotional expressions which worked great alongside his. Both were pretty well-balanced in personalities. None of them were overly arrogance, overly kindhearted, etc. as you sometimes find with characters in the same genre. It felt natural and the straight-forwardness of their interactions is my cup of tea.

Initially in the early episodes, the female lead's clingy ways were a bit off-putting but given her situation, most people would likely be just as desperate. She won me over in due time.

The blanketing story of our lead female encountering ghosts and assisting them with their requests was done much better than expected. It is imperfect with its inconsistencies, such as the portrayal of them looking horrifying at times and them semi-normal at other times. There also isn't much explanations about their existence. But it isn't meant to be a horror genre and the blend of humor around it forgives this. Instead, it worked very well with the plot momentum and prevented it from having romance drag.

It definitely should be mentioned as well that one of my favorite things about this was the many hilarious statements in the script. One of the earlier ones that come to mind is "I didn't listen to you because I cared. I listened because I've got these ears attached to my head."

While the series has its scattered flaws with an imperfect pacing towards the end, it was one of the rare romance-heavy ones that I enjoyed in its entirety.

Yes, stories about people being able to see ghosts and how their lives are turned upside down for that have been around for ages with repetitive humour, no emotional value and non-existent suspense . But alas, thank the Lord that is not the case with this drama.
From the start to finish, I was HOOKED with the female lead. She's not a pushover at all but is not annoyingly bossy and is quirky in her own way without being over the top about it (also Gong Hyo Jin has like the best legs out of all the K-drama actress I'm sure of it). The male lead, is well... a bit of a jerk (like a massive one in ep 1 though) butttttt fear not because his character development can only be described as EPIC. It was beautiful to watch their relationship blossom through mutual trust, respect and their hilarious encounters with the ghosts.
While I laughed like crazy at parts, this drama is also VERY good at pulling and tugging your heartstrings, as the core storyline brings so much emotions but the side stories in every episode are so refreshing and you can't help but feel warm inside with each happy ending for the ghosts.
The actors are so brilliant I truly believed they were their characters, including the second male lead and sometimes I rooted for him until our main couple is back on the screen and I was team So Ji Sub all over again. Plus it's darn CUTE when he gets jealous lol, you will laugh and feel tingly at the same time.
All in all I adored this drama and can watch it over and over again. So touching yet touches of humour graze the story effortlessly and the CHEMISTRY between is lead is astounding. Watch this now or live to regret it. I mean it.

outstanding.

I never expected it to be this good when i heard about this, usually i don't watch kdramas that contain supernatural stuff but i am really happy i gave this a try
Gon Shil was a ray of pure craziness and she was so funny and so innocent yet so sweet, i immediately fell in love with her during the first episode.
Gon Shil and CEO Joo Joong Won looked so good together and him being her safely place was everything, like i am totally down for this.. I wouldn't really call this a slow burn ship but im really glad they weren't all head over heels in already in the first episodes, i really like when you can see their feelings slowly develop and that was the case with this drama!
Them hunting down ghosts was enjoyable too watch, you will have some heart fluttering moments and also some that just leave you in complete shook.
Although this drama kinda lost the spark the more it got to the end it could keep me watch until the very end.

All in all, i will definitely rewatch this drama later this year, i just love this so so so much. Its a must watch

Let’s just say this is a great show like always gong hyo Jin rocks.
The only thing I didn’t like was at the end there was an amnesia scene which is just like why do directors/screenwriters like to add amnesia so much, seriously not all gets amnesia that easily. Literally if you fall or something you’ll most likely get a concussion than forget everything.
What I enjoyed the most was the chemistry like damn GHJ literally has chemistry with all of her leading man, my girl over here is amazing literally.
The horror scenes tho. My heart literally almost popped out watching it which is great because sometimes when shows try to make a horror scene and I’m just sitting there like wth are they doing. So props to the MS team on making scenes scary af.
The characters are all played well there’s really no dull moment or like wth is going on thing.
I also loved how Joong won was like he’s an expensive radar i could not stop laughing whenever he said that to gong shil.
Oh and some scenes are just tear jerkers like my eyes became Niagara Falls watching it. This show is such an emotional roller coaster in a good way.
And some scenery like damnnn it’s nice af, the director knows what they are filming.10/10

Laugh Out Loud!

Yes, this romance-horror-comedy series will definitely make you laugh your head out! I was amazed on how they were able to squeezed in this trio type of series. I laughed, frightened and felt giddy all throughout the series.

This drama is very refreshing. Episodes 1 and 2 made me laugh so hard that I wanted to see more of it. If not because of work, I could have finished this in one seating! Though there are some episodes were I think is a little shaky, especially the part were Tae Gong-shil tried to run away from Joo Joong-won, that agony part is too long for me. But that is forgivable.

Well, do i have to say more? This ain't the best series but it will surely makes you jump off your feet and fall off your sit. Watch it! its worth the time. :)

***This is my favorite Kdrama***

I can't believe I put this drama on hold for so long. To be honest, I had a few biases that made me not want to watch this magnificent drama despite all of the great reviews it had. One of them is because I saw So Ji Sub on an episode of Infinite Challenge where he wanted to get slapped by Yoo Jae Suk. I didn't know if I could see him as a leading man after that. Another reason that more people can probably relate to is the horror genre. Kdramas are usually cutesy and romantic. I thought that half of the drama would be wasted on the horror and ghost hunting aspect. While it does have that aspect, it's not what I expected and the time is definitely not wasted (you'll probably agree that the drama is way too short later on). The side stories are an integral part to move the main story along along rather than being unessential stories that don't relate to the main characters at all. I don't want to offend anyone who's into the whole vampire and witchcraft genres, but I myself was not interested in that and thought that it was those fans who were posting all over the internet how great this drama was and that this drama was definitely not for me. Part of the reason is because of the deceptive cover photo. It has a very serious and eerie feel to it that makes it seem as if they'd spend a lot of time in a cathedral hiding from vampires (So Ji Sub looks like a vampire who's ready to bite Gong Hyo Jin in the picture). I thought that the whole plot would be like vampire stories I've heard about where the main conflict is the girl sacrificing her body to the vampire.

Unlike the the outdated, unappealing photo and any other biases I might have had, this drama really made me put my guard down. It takes a very comedic stance on how people view Gong Shil's ability to see spirits and was surprisingly thrilling at times while still portraying a sentimental approach to the connection between the living and the deceased. I have seen many Kdramas that I've enjoyed where I've seen couples that have shared cute and funny moments, but never have I seen a couple that I thought really belonged together or actually NEEDED to be together and that I rooted so much for until I saw this show. They are the cutest pair I've ever seen and I don't think I'd even care if the world just disappeared while I watched those two together on screen. I really wanted what they had together. Even from the beginning, where their relationship was a little weird, their chemistry made the weirdness (which I probably would've dropped a show for) work. The show has the cutest confession and cutest kiss. I appreciate how the side romances did not take over the story like they do in many dramas and thought that they had a bit of charm to them as well- of course not as much as the main couple, but that how I think Kdramas should be. I'll admit there were some things that I did not enjoy but they were very minor flaws like a little bit of being wishy-washy to the point that I was even unaware of what the character wanted at one point, and a few predictable things. However, I watched the entire drama in two days because I never felt that they were bad enough to make the show lose its appeal unlike other shows that have these problems which cause them to have a two or more episode slump that you usually find near episode 7-10 in a Kdrama. Some dramas never recover from that slump and turn your favorite drama into a typical or even unbearable one, which brings me to my next point. Not only did this drama have few things I disliked (which is the reason I did not give it a perfect ten), but it had the best ending (specifically the last episode which had so many hug-your-pillow-really-tight rewind moments) I've seen in Kdrama. Usually the ending is what loses me in many Kdramas, but this drama makes you love the main couple even more so at the end.
As for the acting, it's a given that Gong Hyo Jin is one of the best Kdrama actresses (and one of my favorites). Many shows that I watch are for her because I know she can act well and pick good roles unlike my favorite actress, Eun Yoon Hye, who is a good actress but can't seem to find good roles. So Ji Sub- is a name I will never forget now. Boy was I wrong about him. Never judge someone by your first impressions. He can ask Yoo Jae Suk to slap him all he wants and he will still be one of the best leading men. At first, maybe because of my bias, I was very skeptical of him and his ability to woo someone. How could he be cuter than someone like Seo In Guk who had me in tears in the first episode of Reply 1997? By the end of the drama I just wanted to hug So Ji Sub with the cute little caterpillars above his eyes. He can display so many emotions with them and his happy eye smile when he hears about money is to die for. It's not like Gong Yoo where you think he's very handsome, but So Ji Sub pulls at your heartstrings with how cute he can be. He doesn't even have to shed tears. He's good, okay? That's all I can say. MY GOSH I WISH HE'D DO ANOTHER ROMANTIC COMEDY! *Sigh* Okay, moving on. Seo In Guk is one of the few actors like Yong Hwa who can be cool on and off stage. He didn't woo me as much in this show but his kung fu moves really made me laugh, probably not for the right reasons though. On a side note, I did find the vice president likeable towards the end. The rest of the characters didn't seem to stand out too much to me since they were typical but they were likeable.
Although the music did not have a specific memorable-sing-along-add-to-your-playlist-and-repeat OST like That Man from Secret Garden, the music was pleasing and the placement really helped to set the different moods. I liked the song from Seo In Guk as well. Oh, and I was very surprised that this one song that I thought was Kim Jong Kook when I heard it was actually Gummy.
Overally I'd give this drama a rewatch value of ten which is very high since I don't rewatch shows since they take a lot of time and usually give a rewatch value of 3 or less. I really want to rewatch this with other people so I can show them how great it is and make them watch Korean dramas with me. I'm positive they'll start watching after they see this with me. ^____________^
This is definitely the best drama I've seen. It has all the things I look for in a drama: laugh-out-loud-and-not-just-smile-because-it's-cute comedy, good acting (even though they never had the Gong Yoo crying in Coffee Prince, I felt just as sad looking at little So Ji Sub's little sad eyebrows), no long slump near episode 7-10 that makes the drama lose its appeal, a plot twist, and a really cute ending that's not just a bunch of mush. This is definitely my favorite drama by far. It sucks now though that I will probably have a hard time finding a good one after this.

This is one drama that has to be watched. The lead actors have it all : good looks, acting, chemistry and charm. Some episodes made me laugh some cry, but every one was a hit for me! I loved it! More and more I love Kdrama and this one is going to be one that i'll watch again and again.... oh yes, both main actors are simply gorgeous!

I have watched the Hong sister's other masterpieces but this one is definitely one of my favorites.
It's a great proceeding to I Hear Your Voice.
It's a bit like the Thai dramas Raak Boon (if you have ever hear of it) It's definitely hilarious, adorable and you kinda only kinda don't expect what's happening.
I have only watched up until episode 4 as only 4 episodes have aired but i still think even after the drama finishes i would definitely watch it.
The music is what that makes it less scary, and also the ghosts aren't all that chilling so if your looking for a horror drama its good to watch but you won't be that scared.
The acting well...all the actors cast, as far as what i have seen from them i think they are great actors, they all make it hilarious and funny and unique in there own way so the chemistry between the cast and how they act with each other is really good!
The romance is really cute and adorable and once you have seen the first episode you will know what i mean, its very..different but funny.
You can see throughout this review that my main opinion of this show so far is that i's hilarious and it entertains me and as far as i know I'm someone who watches and likes things that most people would like as well, and i definitely think that whoever wants to watch this show is just like me so i say go for it.
It's super goooooooood!
