O enredo é genial, o plot twist super bem pensado.

Not an alien show; it's a love story (minus the (explicit) romance)

Docked a point because they showed graphic violence with no hesitation but showed 0 cute explicit sapphic interactions. Like hello??? The material was there?? (I'm convinced the Extracurricular duo is always out to frustrate me on this end).

Kidding aside, I love this show a lot. I wish it had gotten hype after its release but I guess I can sort of see why. The first few episodes are rather slow and the turns the show takes make it seem all over the place. I mean, a missing boyfriend? Aliens? And then a cult? But really it all ties up together.

At its core, Glitch is not about the occult (which probably disappointed viewers who started it for that) and it's not even really about the cult. It's an ode to adulthood and the struggle of trying to fit in a world that thinks you're absurd and weird (and childish) if you're not like everyone else. It’s a story of acceptance and the love story in it is about finding a person who takes your nonsense seriously.

The fundamental question in the show seems to be “What is love?” and “How far should one go for love?” (and I don't necessarily mean romantically despite my qualms about the lack of romance between the two leads). Enter Jihyo and Bora, two women who live unconventional lives. Jihyo has ‘everything’. She has a stable job, a supportive family, and a boyfriend she will likely marry soon. But she is unsatisfied with her life, and so are the people who surround her. Her dad worries that she won’t be able to live a ‘normal’ life. He doesn’t trust her and he thinks she’s neither ‘grown-up’ nor ‘normal’ enough to stand on her own in society. Jihyo's stable life also slowly falls apart. Then she meets Bora again, an old friend from middle school who she had burnt bridges with. Bora is far from her personality-wise but she also lives a somewhat unconventional life. She is presumably also around 30, with no stable job, no supportive parents, and seemingly no romantic partner whom she’ll be marrying anytime soon. The difference is that Bora is satisfied with her life despite being somewhat of an unsuccessful 'outcast'.

The show throws these two together in a twisty-turny adventure. They do it together because they have no choice but to — no one else would really believe them. And this, the show argues, is love — someone taking you seriously. Bora is the first one to share Jihyo's interest in UFOs. When they meet again, years later, with bad blood between them, she ends up being the first one to stand by her again. Of the many people in Jihyo's life, it's Bora who puts faith in her and her words, time and again. And of all the people in Jihyo's life, Bora is the only one she can wholeheartedly trust. Even with her being adverse to believing in the improbable, she puts faith in Bora regardless of factual evidence. She ignores rumors about the young 'delinquent' Bora and again ends up being the only person she trusts with her 'nonsense'.

This idea of love being tied to faith is where the cult, and especially the cult leader comes in. If love means believing someone’s words regardless of the actual truth, how far can someone go until it’s dangerous? The drama shows the pitfalls of taking love ‘too far’ while also showing how it can be the very thing that saves us.

Thriller and comedy? Yes!

If you've ever wondered how is it possible to combine two genres that seem to be complete opposite, and do it well, watch Glitch.

This shows has everything.....cool mystery, plot twists, tense moments...combined with fun adventures feel, occasional slapstick and tongue in cheek self awareness. The sismance is real too!
I should probably say more about the plot...but actually, it's probably best to go in blind! Just.....expect the unexpected, and roll with it!

Also, great performance from Hong Yeo Been, who once again proved what a versatile and talented actress she is. If you got used to her in Vincenzo, prefer to get mindlbown because her acting is TOTALLY different here! Also, in my opinion, she looks much better with shorter hair and not too much makeup on.

My only complaint is that music is....really nothing special. It kinda is there, and fits its purpose; lotsa chill and offbeat tracks; but it's nothing really great or memorable.

A Fantastic Story filled with all Sorts of Chaos

I had come along this drama just scrolling through the library for my next drama and was instantly curious about the alien concept for its story. Instantly the drama sets the tone with a wild first episode which really does lure the viewer in with the mystery surrounding the main character, Jihyo. Then it really does totally capture the viewer with the second episode in introducing everyone else including the second main character, Jihyo's former childhood friend Bora. The dynamic between the two leads is so natural and they do really feel like they do have some real history between each other.

The story itself is so unique from all of the other dramas I have watched and the entire style the way the drama's director goes about telling the story is picture perfect. From the cinematography, the lighting, and the OST. The original soundtrack for the drama was perfect, it had an almost Stranger Things like feel to it but with a more modern sound to it.

The drama is one of those short and to the point dramas which doesn't waste the viewers time with nonsensical plots that draw away from the actual plot of the story. Each episode is about 45-50 minutes with only 10 episodes so it is an easy watch and perfect for binging, especially because this drama really makes you want to watch more. The ending without spoiling anything, leaves an open door for a second season which I really do hope they do another season, the cast and the story were just great all around.

Only negative things I feel about the drama is that at points the drama sometimes feels a bit more western like which is always a bit more of a turn off.

Refreshing and unusual.

I decided to post my IMDb review on mdl with some adjustments so here it is. I feel like I must show my appreciation for more people to see.

An intriguing, funny and refreshing story, I got easily invested in the plot and in our leads, extremely funny at times (I enjoy korean humor very much), so weird in the good sense, I couldn't guess what would happen next so I had a great time watching the whole thing and didn't want it to end so I keep delaying it.

Yeobeen and Nana did an amazing job in this drama especially Yeobeen in the last set of episodes, Nana played the cool and refreshing Bora so well, she's so charming and lovable, and if you look at her character closely she will break your heart with the way she loves and is dedicated to Jihyo safety and well being. Their relationship is the heart of the show, honestly. Wish we got more answers regarding the aliens in the finale but I'm still satisfied.

More than anything I was invested in Jihyo's journey as a person who repressed her real self for years while trying to conform to where she lives then she is faced with the disappearance of her boyfriend in unusual circumstances which reminds her of her past and all insecurities she's been carrying since an incident on her childhood, and with all that she meets Bora again, the person who always believed her. Jihyo's transformation through the drama is really good, she's the lead character but I would call her the hero of the show. Seeing the start of our leads relationship was endearing, I must say the flashbacks were really effective and got me even more invested in their relationship, a lot of dramas, especially romance ones constantly make their leads meet as children but I often find it outdated and forced, but with Glitch is all so natural and it connects perfectly with the present time in the sense it helps you understand both Jihyo, Bora and their relationship better.

The alien and cult plot was able to keep me hooked in the show, till the last minutes of the drama, I didn't know what to believe, it was extremely fun story to follow even though I wish we got more answers, but I'm happy with it, Jihyo and Bora are characters tha are going to stay with me for a while, I truly love them.

The cinematography is really beautiful and cool, the lighting, the music fits the aesthetic of the show perfectly and you will see me asking them to release the tracks because I want to listen to it and remember of the show, and can I say I loved the filter used in the flashback scenes? It's really my taste.

I've watched it on the release week and I still very much into it right now on the last days of December 2022. I think rewatch value is irrelevant to the quality of any media but I gave it a 10 because I caught myself on Netflix rewatching my favorite scenes and plan to make a full rewatch next month lol. I feel like it was a show made for me, thank you the cast and crew for your work, Jin Hansae and Roh Deok I want to see you two working together again, Yeobeen and Nana too, it's a given.

Waiting for even more unusual dramas like this one and Inspector Koo.

I liked this drama..... (MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS)

So, I saw reviews giving this drama low rating and i understand their point but i don't agree with it.I actually liked this drama because of acting and story too, the main point of this drama is not to believe in anything, blind faith can lead to death. My favourite characters were Abigail (SO CUTE), jihyo, bora (so pretty but sometimes annoying, and sister seo. I liked how they actually killed the father because in other dramas they would just report him to the police (I am not saying that killing is right, it is absolutely not) but father had killed so many people and was willing to kill many, I just felt like it was right killing him.if you like mystery but don't want something dark, then this is the show for you.Although I agree this show could've been much better, there was so much build up and it all led to nothing, like I don't understand what was in jihyo's brain or why was it so important.

The low ratings are probably largely due to kdrama lovers watching something that is Alien to them!

This show reminds me of The Matrix quite a bit. As an ancient fossil I still remember my elementary school classmates talking about the meaning of the film & sharing with me their own interpretations, one sillier than the other. Fast-forward to 2022 & reading Glitch's comment section I had a similar feeling even before I decided to actually dive into the drama and it is exactly like the Matrix's non action related content in the sense that it's messy with all this at times seemingly random symbolism that is completely up to interpretation and no two people will think about it same way. (and there are other similarities too, except this show has very few action scenes)

I will of course share my take, but before then let me just say that this is absolutely worth watching and reading my review from this point onward will not be all that useful in deciding whether you give this a shot or not.

In my opinion this show and its characters are incredibly juvenile, but for me that is part of its charm. The early episodes reminded me of Aussie and German children's adventure shows from the nineties & I've got to relive the sense of wonder I felt when I was watching some of them as a kid. (maybe there is a hint of inspiration from Stranger Things as well..) Of course the Glitch remains quite juvenile up until the last episode, but some of the plot gets heavier & more mature as we reach the end.
By juvenile characters what I mean is that many of them are exactly like children with 8th grader syndrome going on an adventure as a group of 2-6 doing batshit crazy things that mature people would never do, but doing all that in a somewhat protected environment, where the adults never interfere too much. (law enforcement) For me this was of course very entertaining & the last episode was absolutely fantastic! Good, well thought out endings do matter & this show has one of the best endings I've seen from a television show. (I raised my final score by an entire point because of the ending) Also the sturgeon conversation at the end is such a simple, but brilliant idea. I can almost see the writer talking about sturgeons with some producer & then deciding to somehow make that the main theme of a new show called Glitch, or not, maybe it's only in my head. (and no, sturgeons are not really a spoiler, since it's impossible to interpret this without context)

TLDR: This is a Korean High Concept show that is not really a Kdrama. If you like high concept shows, give this one a chance. (of course the visuals and visual effects are quite nice & the acting is 10/10 as well)

Nutjobs

Not enough alien juice! Another Netflix slop with no soul, rhyme or rhythm. Actually, this is a good example for having an interesting big idea but don't have a clue what to do with it. The first 2 episodes were interesting with a good build up, however, everything that followed up was a let down. After garnering enough attention in the initial episodes, it just wanted to get to the finish line quickly regardless of how it does it. All Netflix is good for is adding scenes of characters smoking, that's the typical Netflix-tax for you. On the bright side, at least the leads brought a decent performance.

Weird, but in a good way

I decided to give this show a shot die to its obvious similarities to one of my favorite dramas The School Nurse Files. I have only watched one episode so far, and as expected, its weird. But I like that. The characters do seem more normal and human than in The School Nurse Files (check out my review for that one to see what I mean), but it still has a similar unsetteling atmosphere. Im excited to keep watching, and will update my review in a couple days when I'm done binging it! I wasnt sure about Netflix making dramas, but if this one is as good as im expecting it to be, i cant wait to see what they do next. We need more straight up weird dramas.

Update: after some thorough binging I have finished the show. It reallu took a huge turn about halfway though, without giving much information, it went from a The School Nurse Files vibe to a Save Me vibe. The humor let up in the later episodes, which is not surprising. I do wish it had kept that weirdness going, and involved more of the alien aspect, but it was still a good watch. Definitely worth giving a shot if you are into any sort of cult stories or aliens/scifi.
