Mask Girl para mim foi um dorama muito rápido de assistir, em um único dia eu terminei todos os episódios. Não é difícil se apegar a história da Mo Mi, é só triste de assistir. Com o passar dos episódios da para perceber que as pessoas fizeram com que ela acreditasse que ser amada está diretamente ligada a aparência, que os sonhos dela não podem se realizar pela aparência dela. É triste que toda vez que ela tenta dar um passo adiante porque quer ser amada acaba sendo usada, humilhada ou assediada. E mesmo depois disso tudo, depois de tudo que sofreu, é sempre vista como a vilã da história.

O roteiro é bem realista na sua visão de como aqueles que não se encaixam no padrão são tratados pelo resto da sociedade. Um exemplo disso é o quanto eu vi as pessoas comentarem sobre a Nana, a Go Hyun Jung ou até mesmo a atriz que faz a Chun Ae, mas pouco comentários sobre o trabalho da Lee Han Byul, que fez a primeira Kim Mo Mi da fase adulta. Na verdade, no começo, tive até uma dificuldade para encontrar o nome dela, felizmente tinha aqui no site.

O roteiro é bom, todas as atuações são ótimas. O dorama é incrível, eu adorei.

Mask girl ?

I went into this drama completely blind I thought it was just about a girl who has a dream to become an idol but I was so wrong it's much more than that, So before watching this drama I'm going to write the trigger warnings you guys know what you're getting yourselves into. TW: Rape, Sexual Assult, Cyber Bullying, Bullying, Self Harm, Assult

This series is rated 18 for a reason so please keep this in mind when watching this drama as it is definitely not an easy watch. Other than that this drama is amazing and got me hooked from the first episode. The story of Momi is both beautiful and traumatic, Mask Girl tells the story of a girl called Momi who wants to become an idol but as she gets older she gets "uglier" and even though she has so much talent she possibly could never become an idol so she decides to start going live on a website where she can dance and show her talent but she needs to wear a mask or people would judge her for he looks momi also has a job as an office worker and has a huge crush on her boss but she finds out he's in a relationship with someone else in the office and decides to out there relationship out of jealously this results in the boss and the girl losing their jobs. I'm not going to spoil any more of the drama so if you want to watch it please beware of the TW and take care of yourselves other than that enjoy this amazing thriller.

POVs Galore

I jumped into this with hopes of something that hooked me - and it indeed did.

If you're looking for a multiple POV storyline with a sprinkle of mystery and violence, then this is for you!

But the story fell short halfway through. I couldn't truly tell what kind of mystery I was watching and what on earth was going on with the character switches. It was an intriguing storyline and interesting execution in terms of storytelling.

Such a flow has its ups and downs, and to me personally, the downs were more apparent.

I wish there was more fleshed out in this show with less time jumps and more to each character. Rather the 7 episode limit gave a relatively superficial view of all the characters and no way to truly understand the intentions and development of each character.

The story was okay, the production great and the acting okay as usual. A 7/10 from me ^^

Mask Girl (2023) – the flow of the drama was good as I finished the drama in about 2 days time. It’s quite on the brutal, 18+ SPG side, and truthfully I was frightened. All of the characters of the drama are really flawed in my eyes as a watcher, but I think it’s because of the environment that they have been exposed to. The drama is really brave in visualizing topics about plastic surgery and the impossible beauty standards especially in Korea. I think I was bit unsatisfied with the evolution of the characters and their character development but it's fine since there are only a few episodes.

Like entering a deserted alleyway at night - tread carefully.

There are a lot of dark truths depicted in this drama.
It starts with Kim Mo Mi's childhood dream of making it big as an entertainer. She has the body and the talent, however, her face does not conform to societies standards of beauty. Her solution to wear a mask and live stream fulfills this desire,
Her fans are men who lust after her and during a brief encounter with a shamelessly flattering man she is attacked and almost raped. The man is accidentally injured and her rescuer is another fan who has been stalking her. Her instinct is to call the police but she is persuaded by Joo Oh Nam that he will fix things.

Each chapter reveals more about the the individuals.
Their fears and lack of autonomy leading to reaction without plans. We learn some of their back story and how their family upbringing has emotionally crippled them.
The decisions made are reactions that they justify;
She asked for it
He deserved it
God wants me to punish her
I was pulled into the drama by the terrific acting and the moody lighting and sets. A tawdry element overlaid with gritty reality and a serious lack of glamour is reflected in the choice to have plastic surgery to become beautiful but still have the inner ugliness show through.

I'm actually quite surprised the rating is this low - in terms of plot, writing & the concepts this drama touches, I feel like not so many are on its level.
Definitely a well-built revenge story that never feels pointless or stupid as it often happens with other dramas inside this subgenre.
The casting was on point. A group of amazing actresses that were able to handle this story without the big presence of a male star, still quite rare in the drama world.
Definitely would recommend to people that aren't used to watching Asian TV / people looking for a drama that feels like something you'd watch on American TV.
9/10.

Parto dal presupposto che non mi aspettavo una trama del genere, ma piuttosto una storia con la solita morale sulla "bellezza interiore" e via dicendo...Mi ha colpita particolarmente. Ho trovato molto interessante e piacevole poter vedere la storia da diversi punti di vista andando avanti con gli episodi. Gli attori hanno recitato molto bene le loro parti tanto da farmi credere fossero reali; mi ha stupito particolarmente Nana ( non ha avuto molte battute, ma i suoi occhi dicevano molto).
Questa serie ha saputo prendere un tema già trito e ritrito trattandolo in maniera totalmente diversa ,senza mai scendere nel banale con i soliti stereotipi. Come ben sappiamo l'aspetto esteriore è il nostro "primo biglietto da visita" e in paesi come la Corea del Sud questo vale ancora di più.

now that was a lot. certainly mask girl aint for the ones with a weak heart.
the story starts with kim mo-mi who is a normal office worker who deems herself ugly and thus colouldnt become an idol as per her dream. currently she streams on online sites while wearing a mask so that she can fulfill her dream while not revealing her face. this quickly becomes controversial as she is often seen to be narcissistic and over-flirteous on camera and even did a nude show based on her personal emotions. this started all the problems. one by one she was met by problrm after problem unless it turned into a series of murders and the only life mo-mi was living was that of a fleeing murderer. soon enough she gets caught and then starts the story of her daughter mi-mo which is just as twisted.
the ending wasnt up to my satisfaction. it felt quite sudden and emotionless but the plot was just awesome and one of a kind. as much as i love korea being more open to thrillers nowadays its very concerning how everything is thriller nowadays. (not saying i dont enjoy them tho)

Not what I expected

After watching the trailer and hearing the reviews I was so excited to watch this, it was not what the trailer showed.
It was extremely graphic, too many sexual scenes that were uncomfortable to watch and even after watching 2 episodes it felt like it had no real story.
At first it seemed like it had a good premise but it went a totally different route and the mc’s actions were just strange to me.
I couldn’t find one likeable character or one character that I could understand, it was overall a series that was 100% NOT for me.
I’m definitely not finishing this one.
