Japan Film Festival Online (JFF) runs 5th-19th June (noon JST, so 18th for many of us) 2024. It and this voting list include all of the films except Jungle Emperor Leo which is anime and therefore excluded from MDL. Having seen it, I'm not the least bit bothered about not being able to vote for it here. Use comments if you want to rank it.

They have to actually be a character.A = ace and/or aro people in hereGNC = gendernonconforming people in hereI prefer: goofy silly stories, complex plots and characters, gender-nonconformity, relationship dynamics in which both partners are equal (or at least both have a form of power, whether that be status or physical) and tease each other a lot, wholesomeness and good communication, slow burn, supernatural gimmicks, bright colors, indie productions, angst with a happy ending, queer themes such as found family, self-acceptance, social deviance and allegories for systemic oppression/cisheteronormativity.I dislike: plots that revolve around jealousy and miscommunication, relationship dynamics that feel hierarchical or genderconforming (top=masc and hyperdominant, bottom= femme and utterly powerless), plots that take themselves too seriously without actually containing authenticity or depth, sad grey gritty-ness, graphic violence, sexual violence, gore, full nudity, unexamined judgment towards minorities. Those'll have lower ratings on average.If you think you vibe with that, take a look.
