This is one of the most under-rated dramas ever.

If you want something different from the normal idol driven/fluffy/romantic stories and need something fresh and new, this is it. This is not your normal teacher story, Great Teacher Onizuka doesn't even hold a candle to this.

From beginning to end this story has it all, you wont be able to stop. By the time you are done with this drama, you will have learned about yourself, the world, and life. You might even grow up a bit.

I do not give 10s out lightly. Only the creme dela creme get my 10s. And this is 100% one of the best dramas ever made.

Score:
Music was given a 7 because the music fits the show, none of it is bad, but I'm not going to run out and buy the OST.

As for re-watching. I never re-watch shows. So I had no idea how to score it. I do not believe the worthiness of this drama is on its re-watch-ability, so I will not factor that into the end score.

This drama should be watched at least once by everyone, so therefore I'm giving it 10/10.

I didn’t usually watch movies, unless they are some sort of special after the drama (like HanaDan for example), but this was one of the first movies I watched because I liked the summary. It was not the actors, just the summary. And I did not regret it.

Except for Aibu Saki, I had no ideia of how was the other actors’ acting but they left quite a good impression. Ok, not the best. I sometimes found Daisuke Maki’s face way to expressionless, like he was not feeling it at all. Aibu was also not at her best, unfortunately. But the story itself was really good. It did not have that slow development I recently watched in some Japanese love movies and the whole idea of the story was really cute. The way Tanaka Takeshi felt for the girl and watched over her trough that many years is really something that melts your heart, even more when you see that nothing (really nothing) can stop him from trying to protect her and caring for her.

A love story that can bring you to tears without having to make you wait in unnecessary moments.

Ok, I really hated Takemi at first, but that’s probably what they want. And the way everyone fell for her, it didn’t make that much sense, but that’s probably what they want too. But as the story progressed she became like my heroine: taking care of her children, parents and sisters, although doing it in a strange way she never expected to be thanked. Mizuki Arisa did a great job portraying the different sides of Takemi.

But the other sisters made me attached to them too. You kind of know how each of them feels and can’t help but cheer for them. This is not just about how each of the sisters finds their love, but mainly about how they discover the importance of the family and learn more about each other.

Aside from some unnecessary scenes or others you just have to stop trying to understand, expect some tearing and a great family-drama series.

If I judged right, this is somehow a silent movie. And silent movies aren't exactly my cup of tea. There were too many unnecessary scenes. It was too tragic. At least the acting was great. I felt the guy's emotions but I was kind of wondering how an unconditional love was developed in him. I sympathize with the girl and her overly dramatic life. I pity the guy's best friend. This movie failed to make an impact.

This movie is genius.
I actually have nothing more to say since I can't even express in words how much I love, adore, praise this masterpiece.

This movie left a deep impact on me because at a certain point, my conviction as to who is right is questioned. I think that it exposed the bitter reality of the world in a way that people can understand.

Well, I didn't mind the music that much but I guess it just had to be a perfect 10.^^

This movie is extremely hilarious! There were scenes which I seriously can't get over with and had to replay a couple of times. The two mains' chemistry was surprisingly good and their characters are well-matched. I find the actress' voice really funny and Lee Dong Wook actually pulled off the action parts quite well. Although a lot of scenes were forcibly coincidences, you'll let it off since it is really compensated by fun and great acting. This movie is what you call comedy!

Live Actions either surpass or disappoint their originating works. I believe that this movie actually surpassed my expectations. I pretty much liked how George is kinder and softer than in the anime. And most importantly, I loved the ending of this than the anime's. It was also commendable that there were no substantially missing parts in the movie unlike other adaptations which are literally stuffed, that though you hadn't watched the anime, you could still comprehend the story completely.

Hitsudan Hostess being a true story is a well enough reason for it to be a must see. Kitagawa Keiko matches the role quite impressively. There is good transition and the feelings easily reaches viewers. It is somehow in part a documentary because the real person appeared herself. Needless to say, it is an inspiring story of an amazing person who finally obtained and reached her dream. Watch it and let the story speak for itself.

Dicky Cheung in a period drama? What could be better?

This remake of a chinese classic is stunning in its originality and modern take on well loved characters. The story itself has been a long favourite of mine for many years, and to be honest, Wei Xiao Bao will never be the same again after you watch him portrayed by Dicky Cheung.

STORY:
A new take on an old story, filled with a few new twists that keep us oldies interested, but loyal enough to avoid offending our delicate sensibilities. Filled with deep political plots, thrilling fight scenes, as well as endearing interpersonal interaction; this drama will have you on the edge of your seat, laughing, and/or crying all at once. It will make you hold your breath, or try to catch your breath as you crack up like a maniac, and make you cry your eyes out. All in all, it has everything a good story should have.

ACTORS:
I can't begin to describe how brilliant the actors in this drama are. Every.single.one is a GEM in chinese television (except Ekin Cheng).
Never have the wives of Wei Xiao Bao been endowned with more vivacious and believable personalities before this series.
Whereas previous series have often focused on developing only one or two of the wives, this version gives each girl a wonderfully rich personality and a chance to show it off.
The actors themselves, too many to list, are all exquisitely skilled in portraying their roles and bring life to a story that has been done to death.

MUSIC:
Dicky Cheung is less known for his singing than his acting, but nobody ever said that he was bad. His opening and ending tracks for this drama are catchy and memorable, though admittedly, typically modern.

REWATCH VALUE:
Honestly, there are some moments you just have to relive. After you watch it, you'll know what I mean.

OVERALL:
It's old-school period drama at its best, with Dicky Cheung leading the cast with his amazing acting skills.
One of my all time favourites, and sure to be a favourite of many many more.

As an avid Ruby Lin fan (from her days as Princess Jianning NOT 'Princess Pearl'), I was first drawn to this drama by her involvement. Then they rolled out the publicity for the elaborate costumes and red carpet list of high profile actors, and my heart was lost completely.

Romanticism aside, the drama itself turned out to be a little less than I expected, but still very, very good.
The twists are not necessarily riveting, but they're complicated enough to keep you interested.

STORY:
The backstory for Dou Yi Fang is actually a little ridiculous and features (as usual) Ruby playing first, the mother of the protagonist, and then the protagonist herself. It's your typical tragic orphan story, turned cinderella.
It isn't until Dou Yi Fang enters the palace as a maid, reuinited with her childhood friend Shen'er, does the story get interesting as palace politics and intrigues take over. Her intelligence is a little exaggerated here, with the extent of her intelligence being displayed by little tricks, and convenient politics. (Watch and you'll know what I mean).
It's is Shen'er's story that ends up being far more interesting, which is strange, considering the actress, Wang Li Kun, is far less well known.

ACTORS:
Ruby and Sammul are well known for their acting prowess, but it is Yang Mi, Wang Li Kun, Luo Jin and Mickey He that take the screen by storm.
Wang Li Kun as Shen'er is the epitome of a scheming beauty, while Luo Jin strikes us as the tragic Emperor, caught in a web of lies and murder. Yang Mi proves to the world that she can be a wonderful femme fatale (literally in this case), with a heart of pure gold, while Mickey He is perfect as the hot-headed, well-meaning General of Liu Heng's empire.
Dai Chunrong and Bai Shan, both veterans of the acting world, are stunning as Emperess Dowagers. I could rave on and on, but if you've heard of them, expect nothing less than their best. If you haven't, then you haven't quite experienced life yet and you need to watch them.

As good as the leads are, I think in this case, their supporting actors totally stole the show.

MUSIC:
Typical, nothing outstanding.

REWATCH VALUE:
I see no reason to really re-watch it or otherwise. It tends to be somewhat overwhelming, personally.

OVERALL:
A good drama to watch and definitely above average compared to its peers. If you enjoy historical dramas, a bit of eye candy, and a dash of romance; then this is definitely for you.

I'll be fair, I've only seen one episode, so maybe the rest are better. To be honest, the first episode already put me off. Granted, I recently watched Startling By Each Step, which has a very similar plot to this, so I couldn't help but compare the two.

If you're looking for a deep plotted, serious period drama, I wouldn't really watch this. But in all honesty, I can see why people like it as good old light hearted fun.

For me personally, I'm not a fan. From the costumes, to the premise, it's everything I thought 'Startling by Each Step' would be, and thus, not really my cup of tea.

Actors:

I've actually seen many of these actors in other period dramas that I've liked, so it's no fault of theirs that I'm not partial to this one. The leading lady in particular is well known for her acting prowess in other shows and continues to do well here.

Music:
Typical pop, nothing much to say about it there.

Rewatch Value:
...I didn't even make it past the 1st episode once.

Overall:
For history buffs or lovers of deep story lines; no.
For something lighthearted; yes.

For anyone who's watched Startling By Each Step first; no.
I actually wish I'd watched this before and maybe I wouldn't be quite so biased as I am.

As a person who is incredibly picky about period dramas, I have to admit that the original premise threw me off completely. I went into this thinking that I was going to be bombarded with terrible acting, predictable plots, and ridiculous characters. I mean hey, these days, I hear the word 'time travel' and I automatically think, 'writer-without-an-original-idea-borrows-loosely-from-history' ie. crap.

And I was completely wrong, thankfully.

Story:
Tong Hua's genius lies not in her premise (which a teenager could come up with) but with her ability to subtly weave in twists and turns that the audience doesn't quite expect. She keeps us guessing, despite the fact that we already know what's going to happen (because it's a period drama), and that is no easy feat.

The characters, with Maertai Ruoxi and YinZheng leading the crew are filled with wonderful, loveable and believable personalities. Maertai does not, according to typical tropes, run around insisting on forcing her modern ideas onto her new found friends and surroundings. Instead we see an intelligent, warm young woman who struggles to fit into her new world, which is a far more realistic plot development than the former, and much rarer. The realism is refreshing, and makes the fantasy so much more believable.

Acting/Cast:
I have not watched a drama where every single member of the cast has been so amazingly talented or believable in their roles. You forget they are actors, and you come to love them as the characters they portray.

Music:
Originally a 10, but strangely enough there's a track in there that screams 'Lord of the Rings' which takes aware from the rest of the Soundtrack, simply because it renders the scene a little ridiculous. Aside from that, the title tracks and insert tracks, which include songs by Hu Ge, and leading lady Liu ShiShi herself, are beautiful, memorable and fitting to the story. The remaining instrumentals are a lovely mix between traditional and modern; capturing the very essence of the show.

Rewatch Value:
There are parts I can't bear to watch again, but not because they weren't good, but because they awaken too many emotions. That in itself, is a remarkable achievement. You WILL rewatch it, because it's hard to let these characters go, and you will find yourself watching it all over again, just to be close to them. It sounds insane, but it'll happen! This is one show that leaves a very drastic impression on its watchers.

Overall:
AMAZING.
There will be very few dramas to ever top your list after this one. It is riveting, emotional, and beautiful. Thrilling, ingenius, and unforgettable.
The costumes and props alone make this show stand out from its peers. FYI, their costume designs were simple and very accurate to actual Qing fashion (contrary to say, Gong), and some of the artifacts were actual antiques, borrowed from collectors (worth millions of dollars).
History buffs will enjoy the beautiful loyalty to Qing fashion and artifacts, and romantics will be entranced by the beautiful love story between Maertai Ruoxi and her one true love.

At first, I only watched a few MV of tamra island because Seo Woo was there. I know she's not a very pretty actress like what other would think including my bestfriend, but hey, I think she is a good actress and really looks childish even in Cinderella's sister. That's what makes her cute but at the same time annoying. Pierre here didn't caught my attention, his acting wasn't that terrible but he could have been better. I mainly thought the girl would end up with him and so I didn't want to watch it at first but I decided to give it a chance. It was amazing . I got super addicted to it, I couldn't stop telling my friend how cool this series was. I am on Lim Joohwan or Park Kyu's side here. He is an amazing actor, and his role here is the best and most improved. The story itself is very interesting, like the Pierre/William story about the shipwrecked, the secrets, the love triangle, the fight against evil lol xD the fact that the girl liked William at first... and then Kyu slowly falling in love with the girl without telling her... I just really love it. The music are all so great, everything is so warm to hear and those instrumental musics are the best. I was so into it. You dont know how addicted I am to this, for the first time, a romantic comedy and unusual historical drama. This is the first historical drama with so much comedy scenes and romantic scenes and thrilling scenes that I loved to the max AFTER The Princess man. But hey, you should watch this. I dont understand why it got low ratings, I love this. Forget about William speaking Korean fluently than English, he looks natural in his acting so it was just fine. I know Sometimes Seo Woo/BeoJin exaggerates when she acts so the acting is for me, it could have been 8.5 but overall, this drama is so great and addictive. Trust me.

When I first watch this drama, on episode 1, I was shocked by the brain surgery scene. Even though actually I was aware of it, since this is a medical drama about neurosurgeon. But by the time, I was used to it.
While watching this drama, I really feel dynamic emotion. On around episode 7/8, I really hate all the characters and even think about stop watching.. But actually I hold myself and keep watching, hoping that it will get better on the next episodes. And it actually is! On the later episodes, I really feel this excitement of waiting for the next episodes. I think it's when the love line between Kang Hoon & Ji Hye starts to grow. Back then, on the later episodes, I actually can understand the reasons behind all of the character's irritating and annoying behavior. And eventually I start to like the characters as they got better.

The story: there's not much Korean drama that have this kind of story. To be truthful, I am kinda interested in semi-documentary drama like Brain. I used to watch Surgeon Bong Dal Hee which is also a medical drama. Maybe that's why I watch Brain in the first place. But the romance in it also hold me to keep watching this. Overall, it has a great story.

The casts: for the casts, I think there's no one can play the role of Lee Kang Hoon better than Shin Ha Kyun. Arrogance, selfishness, obsession, everything that was the part of Kang Hoon's character, was expressed very well by Shin Ha Kyun.
On the other side, I think Ji Hye's character is a bit weak. Choi Jung Won's acting doesn't really caught my eyes. Even though, she managed to have a good chemistry with Shin Ha Kyun.
As for Lee Sung Min (played the role Go Jae Hak), I have to praise his acting that successfully made me hate Go Jae Hak so much.

The soundtrack: for me, no particular song that stands out. Sorry to say, but in my opinion, the soundtrack is just average. It did helps to bring the mood on the drama. But besides it, it's just average.

The rewatch value: I can't say that this drama is bad (if it's bad, I would've stopped watching it in the middle). But for rewatching it, maybe I wouldn't.

Overall, this drama is good for whoever wants to be a doctor. By watching this drama, you can learn about responsibility towards a patient, and even a commoner like me can learn a lot about neurosurgery. One suggestion, don't watch this drama if you're afraid of blood (just like me on the first episode).
