Sorry I love you is the equivalence to masterpiece for me...masterpiece is not about perfection...it's about how the drama affects me...
even though I've only watched this drama 8 years ago ( and that I've never re-watched it) I remember every scene in it...every feeling it gave to me...every tear I shed for Cha Mu Hyuk's pain...no drama ever have affected me that much... it taught me more about family than any family drama...and more about love than any romantic one...it taught me about life, pain and happiness...it opened me to emotions I would've never felt & to thoughts I would've never thought...for the 1st time I saw death beautiful & suicide OK...for the 1st time I knew what love actually mean...it's not that complex...it's what makes you happy...useless sacrifices are not needed...living the time you have left together is what really matters...being by each others side even in death.
I Love that drama...not because of how good it was written or the brilliant acting or the nice direction...I love it because it made me see things in myself I would've never seen...and I know for sure...If that 11 years old young me didn't accidentally watch that drama at that time...I would've never been the same person I am today :)
*** For the music I love the OST...Snow-Flowers is one of the best Korean songs I've ever heard.
*** one day I'll re-watch it and I know it'll affect me the same way or maybe even more :)

On that note, the story here is fantastic. Sure, it is fairly heavy, with betrayal, kidnapping, sexual abuse, gangsters and murder all featuring at one point or another but this is accompanied by many lighthearted moments, especially in the earlier episodes set in the past. The first four episodes were outstanding, and when the story moved on to the present it kept up for the entire 21 episodes.
This drama quite possibly has one of the best casts I have ever seen. Yeo Jin Goo and Kim So Hyun as the young Han Jung Woo and Lee Soo Yeon were perfect, maybe the best child actors at the moment? They were both innocent and cute, yet heartbreakingly tragic, and after episode 3 (if you've seen it, you know what I'm referring to) I was stunned at how well they acted some incredibly emotional and confronting scenes. Park Yoochun and Yoon Eue Hye as the adult Han Jung Woo and Lee Soo Yeon were also excellent, proving they can both do comedy as well as serious drama. Yoo Seung Ho, however, is the stand out here as he tackles the incredibly hard role of our anti-hero Kang Hyung Joon, a villain who we also pity and at times understand. I look forward to seeing him in other dramas from here on. The supporting cast should not be forgotten, they were all fantastic in their various roles.
The music played a large part in making this drama so effective. The main track, Tears Are Falling by Wax, is probably one of the best drama tracks I have heard and probably caused this viewer to cry more times than I'd happily admit. The score as well was fantastic.
So why do I give a rewatch value of 5 when I'm raving about this drama? It is heavy, and at times draining to watch, the constant sadness, especially earlier on is tough, and some episodes were spent watching through blurry eyes. This is a drama I probably will watch again eventually, but not anytime to soon, the recovery period is quite long.
Overall, however, this drama is fantastic in every way. The story, about lost love amidst a world of murder and scheming, is told beautifully through the actors, music, direction and cinematography. By the end we have been through a huge emotional rollercoaster, and although some may not like the ending, which is both uplifting and tragic, one can't deny this show has a lot going for it.

If you're looking for a detective tv drama, this is it people. Another thing that I actually like about it is it's funny, makes you laugh hard every now and then.
Great character development.
All said, I'm looking forward on watching the second season. It better be greater or equal to this!

The story doesn't let you get bored at all. There is not a part where you say "I'm getting tired of this" or "I'm gonna stop watching" because it keeps going in a very steady pace.
The music was great, I didn't find a moment where it felt out of place. Well actually at first you do because you're just beginning the drama but you'll learn that the music matches the scene perfectly.
The cast was awesome. Though there are some people that disagree and say that there was no chemistry in a scene. But honestly it was on purpose. (read the synopsis)
Overall I would definitely rewatch this because IT GAVE ME THE FEELS MAN.

You add in Falcon's awesome acting skills along with J's craziness then you have a combination that can't be beat. If you like shows like LOST or 24 then you would love this drama. And it helps that you can spend 11 episodes looking at Narimiya Hiroki's good looking face.

It's quite good!! And I'm hooked.
I am not a big fan of family dramas because they are long, too many conflicts involved, and becomes uninteresting as episodes move on. This is definitely something different.
On the other hand, this drama quite surprised me with this underdog tale of unlucky and optimistic,Lee Soon Shin and arrogant, cold-blooded (hides his feelings) character, Shin Joon-Ho. With lack of confidence in both characters, this is neat way to build a story from scratch from an ordinary girl into a famous actress and from an arrogant president to a changed person. This will help build their romance and understanding.
Each character has their own background and this drama takes time to expand their stories so each have time to tell their tale and how they got to this point in the story.
After watching 2 episodes, I realized that this drama will be 50 episodes long. Did not expect this at all. Great start in the few episodes with its quirky yet interesting story-telling plot. Impatiently waiting to watch for more!!

Who does not like drama, tears and tragedy do not advise this drama.
the two main male actors do an outstanding role in this drama, most of the time i even believed in their sorrows and feelings, as well as their tears. The pain seemed so real.
Just Outstanding!!!

I fell in love with the main leads & felt their love developing. I loved the parents & grandparents. I also loved how meddlesome the mother & brother were.
The oST was so so. I would re-watch this one. You should not miss it.

Brother Beat tells the story of a Tokyo housewife and her 3 sons. After her husband passed away she was left to raise 3 rumbustious boys all on her own, but after the kids reached a certain age this mom hung up her apron, leaving all the household chores to the boys.
The boys carried out their duties with varying degrees of dedication, but still, men doing house chores in Japan is a novelty to me so I appreciated their efforts with awe.
Mom was an offbeat, carefree character & while you're likely to see her face if you look up the definition of slacker mom, I actually think she did her sons a service by teaching them to be self-sufficient at home and not leave all the household chores to her or their future wives. To date I have never seen a Japanese man help out his wife/girlfriend in the kitchen (or lift a finger around the house). Granted I haven't seen that many Japanese dramas or movies but it was nice to see this occur in Brother Beat.
I'm no feminist, but I'm certainly for mutual respect and equal treatment between the sexes & here in this drama I think a fair balance was achieved in so much as can be achieved in a traditional, patriarchal society like Japan.
Moreover, the girlfriend of one brother in particular may strike you as your typical docile Japanese belle, seen but not heard, but nothing could be farther from the truth. I liked how she stood up for herself when he passed his place. It gave me the confidence to believe that in a traditional relationship the woman need not be a doormat.
Brother Beat was just an overall great slice of life drama, man. A revolving door of themes were explored, from lighter stuff to more heavier fare, but it never got dark. Everyone played their roles really well. That positive, upbeat, feel good vibe was maintained throughout the series and that's why I loved it. I almost couldn't believe I was watching a Japanese series. Usually melancholy, sadness, depressing worldviews are staples in Asian cinema, particularly Japan's, but not this time around. This was just pure enjoyment and escapism. The episodes flew by in a jiffy, leaving you wanting more.
It was refreshing to watch a drama where young people acted as you'd expect them to. Especially when it comes to young men, you know they're having sex and they didn't skirt the issue in this drama. This is something the Japanese is decidedly better at dealing with than the Koreans who tend to frustrate me with their innuendo and allusions when it comes to sex. It's like the big pink elephant in the room no body wants to acknowledge, lol.
As usual, though, the lack of kisses was a disappointment. They were pretty much non-existent and when they did occur it was your standard frozen kiss. No passion, no engagement, no nothing, just ... blah. Sigh. Aside from that, though, this drama was flawless entertainment, but I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Brother Beat to anyone. It's the best family drama I've seen to date. The Sakurai family is a wild, but great bunch. Mom put a wonderful spin on the typical Japanese housewife archtype and her rough housing with her sons is quite adorable to watch. Last but certainly not least, female viewers will be particularly pleased with the brothers. They're certified eye candy, esp the older two. I mean seriously. THEY.ARE.FINE!!! :-)
If you don't watch this drama, you're really missing out!

Story: Hotel politics and romances= nothing new but it had great pacing, which is key to keeping me engaged. Great ending!
Acting/Cast: So I'm going to start with Bae Yong Jun who plays Frank. Ive heard so many things about this actor and did find him attractive in his small bit in Dream High, but his acting in this was quite disappointing. He had no charisma, and I never managed to connect with his character, therefore rooting for the female lead to be with the other male lead. The rest of the three leads, who I am familiar with all were great as I expected them to be. I really liked all the supporting characters, they made the drama much more enjoyable.
Music: What you would expect from an oldie.
Rewatch: I had a good time watching this so I wouldnt ming rewatching again sometime in the near future.
Overall, Hotelier might be old but its one of the better dramas out there.
