Innocence (2020)

"to be innocent, there can't be any reasonable doubt"

After waiting months for English subs, the wait is finally over. I am completely satisfied of this movie and the plot twist at the end made it even better than my expectations. This movie may seem like any other crime movie with the main lead proving the innocence of another but it has its own twist. It is more than just a simple crime movie since (according to Wikipedia) this case was based on a true story and there is also theme of family and forgiveness. They wrapped up everything by the end very well, answering all the questions and closing the case. The cast did amazing in their roles but I love Shin Hye Sun and Bae Jong Ok's performances the most.

Overall, it was a 8.5/10 for me, quite suspenseful with a pinch of touching family scenes. If you love crime, then this is the movie for you! Prepare yourself because are you ready for the truth?

Hye Seon gave justice to the role. Best casting choice.

GOD no wonder Hye Seon was nominated (although it is much better if she won). Honestly, this is the genre I love watching Shin Hye Seon. She got a wide range of acting capabilities, but I like her best in female-lead dramas or movies. Though she still got limited filmography yet, she always outshines her previous works. She got the aura that easily captures the viewers. I bet if she will eventually be paired with a male who has a weaker personality, Hye Seon would probably eat him up. Lol.
Regarding the story, that's where I gave the movie an imperfect score. I think I need to rewatch the movie to totally grasp the strategy employed in the trial (sorry I know I might be looking for something technical, but maybe as a producer, they must at least deliver even the simplest, correct procedure). I was just confused how the case shifted to another murder suspect in the same case being heard. But I think it was just wise to shift the 'blame?' to another. Nevertheless. they still had circumstantial evidence (meaning weak case) for the prosecution, making it easy to refute.
Overall, the execution of the cast, especially Hye Seon, is really good. Hats off.

Excellent work, Shin Hye Sun!

I’m immediately interested in watching the movie just by knowing Shin Hye Sun would be the main character acting as a lawyer. I loved her acting ever since Legend of the Blue Sea, I loved her even more after watching Secret Forest! And trust me, this movie definitely didn’t disappoint!

The story is clear right from the very start. You know where the storyline is going to take you, and you can already feel the thrill even in the beginning. Eventhough it’s purely a law and mystery film, you can still feel tears at the tip of your eye watching the mother-daughter relationship. The ending scene really catches my eye and it would definitely be a scene I’ll always remember.

Shin Hye Sun did a really really great job portraying her character. Her acting never disappoint! Bae Jong Ok as a elder with dementia, Hong Kyung as a teenager with autism, Heo Joon Ho as a antagonist and Tae Hang Ho as the friendly policeman also did an excellent job portraying each of their characters! 2 thumbs up for the acting!!!

Overall, a 9/10! If you’re looking for a crime, law, mystery, family drama with an awesome plot twist... this is definitely for you! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Good job, Shin Hye Sun

Shin Hae Sun is one of my many favorite Korean actress indeed this movie is another proof of her versatility in acting.
The storyline itself was impressive. I was awed with how the mother lived her life with an abusive partner. Her memory may have been lost but the love for her children was never gone. And Ahn Jung In, the daughter, may have grudges but her love for her mother and brother still prevailed.
This movie does not only show fighting for justice but also teaches to look deeper, dig for the truth, think out of the box and not just look into what the naked eyes can see. It teaches us to have a fair judgement.

A brilliant courtroom drama movie about a lawyer returning to her hometown to defend her estranged mother after being accused of murder. The film does not have a complicated storyline. It is actually okay until the plot twist is revealed in the latter part. It's a movie based on a true story and talks about deceit, corruption, conspiracy, and family love, and sticking together in times of need. Innocence is Park Sang Hyun's directorial debut. This is also Shin Hye Seon's film debut and as always, she did not disappoint. Would I watch this movie again? Yes, definitely.

Twisted sense of justice

This is a good choice if you want to challenge your philosophy on justice and how it should be applied.

Interestingly, the whole idea of justice is twisted here: she wants the truth to come to light, yet she conveniently hides it. I feel like the point is that her actions, in the end, are justified by the fact that she uncovered a bigger secret. Still, no one gets punished. I'd argue that deciding what comes to light and what doesn't is a very dangerous position. This ultimately depends on how you view justice. Should justice apply the same way to everyone, or should it be differential depending on the culprits and victims? Most would agree that it should be the same, but practically we tend to empathize with the oppressed regardless. The flow of the movie makes me agree with her, but apart from that, I'm not so sure the chosen approach is the best in terms of truthfulness. She does say her mother already suffered the punishment, but does that truly justify her actions? I'd say it doesn't, at least not fully.
Otherwise, the movie was a pretty good one, even though it does not really have closure... I'd describe it as an open ending. While the type of story is very usual, the take on it is unexpected. Messing with truth and leaving things "unfinished" is a new approach, at least to me.
