I love the original KDrama, Tunnel. Plus my friends keep talking about how Thailand remakes of KDramas are excellent. So when this popped up on Netflix, I thought 'why not give it a try?'
I binge watched the first 10 episodes and finished the entire thing in 3 days. So yeah, amazing remake LOL
The two main leads just nailed it. Totally believed in their characters. I prefer the second lead and the lead girl here over the ones in the KDrama, in fact! Although Choi Jin Hyuk is irreplaceable LOL
The storyline remains enthralling and compelling, as do the emotional tugs on the heart. The villain might be even more chilling in this one, at least more actively menacing. The entire atmosphere of this remake just fit the story excellently.
I solidly support this drama and highly recommend it :D

Is it worth watching if you have seen the original kdrama version and loved that one? Yes! Some of the remakes in Lakorns often have this uneven feel especially in the beginning. It feels like the actors are trying to copy the original, the situations don't seem to quite fit and feel foreign.

However, here, the actors did a great job in taking the characters and filling it with their own energy. Also, the PD did a good job in adapting parts of the story to give it a more Thai flavour so it doesn't feel foreign. A good example would be using a cave tunnel instead of abandoned subway tunnel. A cave tunnel fits in with the natural geography and makes sense. So little details like that. This version had a really provincial feel to it as the PD used the backdrop of the province really well to set the mood. The main villains were creepy and you were rooting for our police to catch them and bring them to justice.

While it is not Choi Jin Hyuk warmth, the main lead Top did a good job giving an ordinary relatable feel to his character with splashes of humour. The other two leads, Johnny and Morakot interpreted the characters in a slightly different way but it was more accessible to me than in the kdrama version. Rather than cold, the two characters came across as reserved and also vulnerable. Instead of a subtle barely hinted romance, this version was fun as you see a budding romance which leads to some good laughs. Thanthai is quite taken with Danika and it is very obvious from the way he looks at her a little longer than necessary. At her end, she is aware and is also interested in him. Enjoyed the spots of humour that arose especially from the little romance.

So if you haven't seen the kdrama Tunnel in a while, then this version is a good watch. It is not often remakes are good enough to stand on their own. :)

Captivating

Not only is the story interesting, but each element of it has been cleverly exploited. The time-travel adds more dimension to the mystery, which makes the whole story intriguing, filled with twist plots and unexpected turn of events.

After the first episodes, there are 3 or 4 filler episodes. I personally liked them, but I felt they slowed down the pace a little bit. Overall it didn't ruin the show, but as I was watching them, I was afraid the mystery would be solved in the very last episodes and all the middle episodes were fillers. Luckily that wasn't the case.

What surprised me the most is that in each episode they give you a lot of information (we even discover who is the culprit mid-show), yet no amount of information is ever enough to get to a full solution of the mystery. I think this clever management of the elements of the story and the information shared with the viewers is what made the show captivating.

I didn't watch the original version, so I don't know how much different this is, but it was still a good watch. Highly recommend it.

Well, this is my first review, and honestly I decided to write one because this drama deserves the recognition.
I loved the original Korean drama, and this remake was perfect. To be honest I think unconsciously I tend to compare the original with remake, but this time I didn't. I didn't even fast-forward, I enjoyed it fully because of the great actors, they delivered a beautiful performance. And I didn't know any of the actors in it before starting the drama, but even so I was amazed by it.
Especially the leading actor, he was great, all the cast shared a beautiful chemistry.
I laughed, and cried, it was exciting and entertaining.
For a remake, I think it's perfect. Applause for the directors and cast and everyone on it because they delivered a very good drama.
This one I recommend to anyone, it's really good. It's a great watch even if you didn't see the Korean version.
And I want to thank the good reviews I've read here because thanks to them I managed to have such a great time.
And because I believe that it's always beneficial to have such honest and positive review because it gives us the opportunity to discover new talent and widen our perspective.
Just go and give it a try, I hope you enjoyed as I did.

Korean version is amazing. I have watched it over and over again and still like it until now.
So, when i see the Thailand remake of this drama. Of course I will watch it, and comparing it with original series from each episode.

There are some elements that are not as strong as original version.
- thriller element : they have same story. but i dont think I get thrilled by this drama. even when I re-watch the original version, I still feel the same sensation. but I dont get it from this drama. I remember in the original version, how the killer chasing and killing the victim. when main character feel worried each other. when they fight each other. its really good. but in this version it just something happen. its a moment with no energy and nothing special.
- shock element : this is an important element in drama especially thriller drama. there are some twist and secret. In korean version, they really handle it properly. but this version, it just like "wow, that's a secret. okay I must show that I am shocked." there are many quotes that I think important don't included in this drama.
- action element : In korean drama, I feel how strong both of main characters are. they really good at fighting, they really good at investigating. and park kwang ho is really someone who has a quick response. In this drama, they are not as strong as original version. so they often asking question from other and get helped by another person.

There are some elements that are good.
- warm situation : main character in this drama is not really hate each other. In original version, they really suspicious each so they ended up situation where one of them thinking the other one is really bad. In this version, even if they still debate and fight, they don't think that the other one is bad, but there is a reason behind their action.
- comedy : when the original version has serious tone. in this version sometimes you find some comedy. that's what thailand drama that I know. they can give comedy for every genre including horror and thriller.

in my opinion, i still like the korean version more. I have re-watch the korean version many-times. And I dont get bored at all. I can finish it in one or two days. in thailand version, I need more days to finish it, because i get bored in the middle episode even this is my first time to watch it. but overall, it's not that bad, you can try it.

Good story and acting

I have not watched the original Korean series, but I have thoroughly enjoyed this Thai remake. The story may not be original, but the delivery of the story is really good.

The story starts with a police officer (Peera) traveling (roughly) thirty years into the future (from 1985 to the 2010s) while trying to nab a serial killer. He helps to solve other cases in the 2010s before being confronted with the serial killer again.

The characters and their relationships are interesting, especially the relationship between Peera and Thanthai (a police officer in the 2010s, the son of one of the serial killer's victims). The cast is excellent; the actors for even relatively minor characters turn out a riveting performance.

Some time travel paradoxes are present, and this is somewhat inevitable. However, one weakness lies in the suggestion that when Peera gets back to his original time in 1985, what he does can change the future, e.g. the present-day serial killer has a new memory of being chased by Peera in 1985 after Peera gets back to the past and tries to catch him. This should also mean that if Peera manages to get back to 1985 and nab the serial killer, the subsequent killings after 1985 can be prevented. It then becomes baffling that he does get back to 1985 permanently in theend, but there is nothing to suggest an attempt to nab the serial killer and prevent the killings that would occur in the 1990s to 2010s. (This is disturbing because most of the killings are actually done after 1985.)

Furthermore, because Peera eventually gets back to 1985, it could mean that the death of his wife (a few years after 1985) in an accident can be prevented, and his daughter won't be orphaned. This may well mean that the orphaned daughter may have a different career and may not help the police of the 2010s solve the serial killer case. In fact, all the events that lead to the nabbing of the serial killer in the 2010s may be changed because Peera returns to 1985 in the end. This then means that the effort Peera puts in to nab the serial killer in the 2010s are likely to be futile unless he doesn't return to 1985.

I guess the ending in which Peera returns to 1985 is aimed to be pleasing enough to most audiences even if it is at the expense of logic. It would indeed be too heartbreaking an ending if Peera doesn't return to 1985 when his wife is waiting for his return. Additionally, people may not like seeing the 2010s characters they have grown to be familiar with suddenly reconfigured by Peera's return to the past.

Personally, I think a reconfiguration could have been done: Peera can nab the serial killer in 1985, preventing more killings. His wife may avoid the accident causing her to die. His daughter doesn't have to be orphaned, but she can still be a professor of criminal psychology and help the police solve crimes. Thanthai (the police officer who happens to be the son of one of the killer's victims may not become a police officer but instead be a doctor/forensics doctor (he gives up studying medicine to be a police officer in order to catch the serial killer). The drawback, of course, is that the audience have spent too much time with the original 2010s characters and their particular histories to be comfortable with their histories rewritten in half an episode or less. But this seems inevitable: e.g. why would Peera's daughter be orphaned if he returns.

While the flaws of using time travel as a plot device are not entirely negligible, the series is still satisfying. The characters and their relationships are engaging without being a distraction from the crime cases. Despite not getting a lot of screen time, the love between Peera and his wife, Wad, is touching. The bond and sometimes tensions between the police officers (Peera/Suchart, Peera/Thanthai and the 2010s team in general) are effectively portrayed without much distraction from the crime stories.

In the end, I still wish that there is a clearer explanation of why the main serial killer changes the sort of targets he had in the 1990s. In fact, I would probably prefer having Peera change the "original" future by going back to the past and nabbing the serial killer. But taking the story for what it is, it is hard to fault the delivery. I'm glad seeing Peera going back to 1985 and having a happy ending. The possibility that his eventual return to 1985 would change the future that he has experienced (including the nabbing of the killer) seems to have been totally ignored in the end, perhaps because the ending isn't meant to trigger a Season 2. If we really demand something that is entirely logical, we are probably better off avoiding time travel stories.

Wow! Another 'Life On Mars', lol. Forgive me, but there IS a copper appearing at his own police station in different year than he'd thought possible. Classic 'Life On Mars' beginning:) Not that I'd need a thai version. I adore the british version (hated the american one, tolerated the korean one) to bits. But I find the leading guy... cute? I don't really like most of the korean guys, so I won't be watching the original with Choi Jin Hyuk (I really don't like him) but I'll try 'Signal'. Now back to the thai one... I even like he's the guy from the 80s, with some level of sexism:) I mean there is a creepy female "doctor" who joins the investigating team in episode 2 and I just wished her to go away. What I loved about the original 'Life On Mars' was the bromance, and here it was similar. It was funny when the chief discovered who the lead hero actually is. He is his "P'" (senior) from back in the day. Therefore a very cute dynamics gets established in the station. As nobody else understands why is the chief's behavior so respectful towards this new "subordinate":) So funny when the "new kid on the station" acted like impatient dad of them all:) It's not as brilliant as 'Life On Mars', because here, main guy gradually convinces others that he's from the past ('Life On Mars' is extremely unique show: among other things it's BECAUSE nobody believes the main guy traveled in time:) So it's more like classical sci-fi, but it's still VERY enjoyable watch. The opening credits are great with good music, not very long but I enjoyed those time and time again. The atmosphere built is successful, the cast outdid themselves, I think here it's everyone's best role, and in case of Top Todsapol it's his only role, so it's a must watch:) Never mind my mentioning 'Life On Mars', it's just a series I'm so obsessed I see it in everything:) 'The Tunnel' is a nice watch for any audience interested in watching a thai series that is NOT a lakorn AND is in all respects enjoyable. It's not exceptional show, the story is not original or really smart (I think we could have spent the last 3-4 episodes better, we already had one culprit plot and less stupid than this one), but you should enjoy watching.

I think I like the OG version (Korean) better.

Good thing in this remake, the writers did well on the adaptation from the Korean to Thai settings. The Korean version is more urban, this one is more rural it even gave a rustic feel to it.

This version also has more warmth, in terms of romance and it's comedic antics. What I don't like is the blatant sexism against women in profession portrayed here.

I didn't get this feeling from the Korean version. Sure at first, the cops didn't want an "outsider" to butt in in their investigation. It just happened that it's a girl criminal profiler.

All in all, it's still a good watch.
