Good Enough

Korean Drama " The Glory Season One " is a revenge drama with an intense story.

The series doesn't shy away from showing the viewer some pretty horrific bullying scenes, hence, making the revenge plot even more necessary and thrilling. The blending of the two time lines, the past and the present. was well presented, without causing confusion and slowly revealing the true horors of the lead's past.

The sweet relationship between the two leads, moreover, was a nice touch, giving the drama some breathing, as well as a chance to the main character to feel more human.

The performances, finally, were all great and what made this drama to stand out.

So, overall, seven and a half out of ten.

"Anyone who injures their neighbor is to be injured in the same manner. Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, fracture for fracture. The one who inflicted the injury must suffer the same. I don't know. That sounds too fair to me."

What a remarkable series. The direction, cinematography, story, acting and especially dialogues were outstanding. I even noted down some of them. The story is so complelling to watch and the way the events unfold is amazing. It shows you the true face of misery. What helplessness feels like and that your past will always come to haunt you. That everyone has their inner demons that they are either fighting or have accepted. How always pushing someone to the edge of their limits can drive them mad sooner or later. How much dire consequences can your actions have on someone else and certainly, on you.

This came highly recommended to me a few months back but I shied away from it after hearing that the first two episodes were pretty violent. I'm glad I changed my mind because while it (the violence) was difficult to watch at first, it wasn't quite on the level of Squid Game, which I was able to enjoy.

There is a rebirth aspect in this revenge drama that reminded me of Green Rose- an older classic, a re-interpretation of the Count of Monte Cristo and also one of my favorites. The melodrama here is turned up a few notches because it is a makjang but once I had my expectations set, I was able to enjoy everything and take all the melodrama with a grain of salt.

I think the cast was pretty strong here and that every actor/actress did a good job, even the ones with minor roles including the child actress.

I'm glad the main actress chose this role because she is mostly known for playing glamorous, leading lady types and this drama allowed her to try something different. I liked her controlled performance throughout because this restraint created an even more powerful effect during those scenes where she finally had to erupt and get emotional. I also like how she had help from several other, like-minded characters, namely the supporting female lead who was just as abused as she was and also the male lead who played her love interest. One of the tropes here is that they were all broken people who supported each other because they could see eye to eye and because the regular justice system couldn't help them like it should have. I'm also glad because it seemed (even for a melo), realistic for me that she couldn't do everything by herself even if she was clever about some things.

There is one part of the plot that I feel was handled poorly and this is how she got revenge on her former high school teacher. I felt that it was silly and that the guy could have just walked out of the room full of flowers if he was so allergic! Other than that, I liked the drama, even if it isn't something I'd rewatch.

antes de assistir the glory, li uns comentários que diziam que a vingança dela (de início), foi leve. Então isso foi o motivo pr'eu começar e vamos lá:

• A vingança dela de início foi muito bem pensada. Ela não quis chegar já contratando alguém pra sequestrá-los, torturá-los e por fim matá-los. Tudo nesse kdrama foi dirigido e pensado MUITO BEM. Por que?

• Começamos com a tortura psicológica. Ela mexeu com a yeonjin de forma psicológica e claro que ao ver de alguns telespectadores isso vai ser fraco. Mas pensem: Mexer com a vida, status, a família e principalmente a filha (que é uma de suas maiores fraquezas depois do status) foi algo que deixou ela lunática. Isso é mostrado assim que a yeonjin descobre que a dongeun é professora da yesol. Ela pensa que a dongeun a machucou e afins, assim como fez com dongeun no ens médio. aquilo deixou ela surtada - o status entra na carreira da yeonjin. dongeun chegou a ameaçá-la sobre "deixar algum comentário" no site da previsão do tempo; algo que a yeonjin chegou a checar no site e viu que não tinha nada. Enfim, o jogo psicológico com a yeonjin é muito mais torturante do que vingança física, corpo a corpo. Ela vai desmontar a yeonjin até por fim machucá-la fisicamente.

• Com o jaejoon, ela usou a filha dele e os segredos que ele tem com a yeonjin, mesmo ele não tendo medo de ser exposto, mas o maior ponto fraco é a yesol.
• com a aeromoça, ela usou o que podia ao seu favor - o fato dela ser interesseira e mal caráter, a paixão secreta pelo jaejoon e a raiva, inveja e ódio da yeonjin.
• com a sara, ela usou a dependência das drogas e um pouco da fé
• com o cabeludo que sumiu (aquele m3rdinha), ela só usou ele mesmo, até porque é pra isso que ele servia. ser um cachorro imbecil e burro.

• É interessante pontuar certa cena que ela tem com o marido da yeonjin (não me recordo o nome dele), onde ele fala sobre a vingança não funcionar no país e ela também comenta isso com a moça que está a ajudando quando diz sobre a 'vingança' virtual, onde ela sabe que se entrasse com algum processo contra yeonjin, mesmo com todas as provas contra ela, isso não daria em nada, ela sairia perdendo - podendo até ser visto como uma crítica contra a própria justiça coreana, visto que em muitos kdramas mostra como as pessoas de elite têm o poder de se safar de vários crimes, seja pagando ou tendo contatos com gente de alto escalão. Então, o que ela tem a seu favor é a Internet. Um simples comentário, um feedback, um EXPOSED na Internet pode destruir a reputação da yeonjin pra sempre; isso é algo que é tanto recorrente no mundo real quanto nos kdramas. É muito fácil arruinar a imagem de alguém na Coreia do Sul. Os knetz não perdoam facilmente e eles AMAM um linchamento virtual. Então essa tacada e citação também foi muito bem pensada.

Por fim, é um kdrama que vale a pena de se assistir, tanto se pensarmos no ponto crítico dele, nos seus efeitos que possivelmente pode causar um senso de justiça, uma voz para a justiça e direções escolares terem diante ao bullying recorrente que diversas vezes é silenciado ou ignorado, quanto por assistir por puro prazer do tipo de gênero. Recomendo super!

i say this way too often but the first season was buildup for the second season to be even more intense. ive watched two episodes of the second season as of now and this is my verdict.
dongeun is a normal high-school student who dreams of becoming an architect but gets bound up with some bullies who bully the soul out of her. literally. its gruesome so trigger warning for that. she decides she is gonna end her life but in the end she realises those bullies are not worth her throwing away her whole life so she starts plotting revenge and lives for it. after 18 years the bullies have their respective happy lives and no guilt or remorse whatsoever for whatever they've done in their teen years and here we have dongeun who's starting her fight against her bullies
the bullying is gruesome and i have trust issues from watching thriller dramas previously so ofc i dont believe all the people like i wont be surprised if someone betrays dongeun at the last moment or smth
dongeun has started her revenge plotting and its just gonna o down from here on so im excited for that. also lee do hyun >>
now why the 8. stars? its overhyped. its not overrated but overhyped. like if ur not on social media or watching it on air thats the only way ull be truly able to enjoy the whole thing. for me ive seen so many edits ik what happened ik what the summary is i basically knew almost everythin in s1 which led to me not enjoying it as much as i thought i would. i dont think ik how this will end tho so lets look forward to it

Revenge but it's a slow burn

The foundation could've been written better. I get it's a revenge based story but there isn't much to the foundation. Why are the bullies, bullies? How do they get away with it?

I would've enjoyed the younger actors getting more details and story. Yes bullying is bad and it shouldn't be done. It just feels like they missed a chance to give us context. I have had friends that ended up being bullies and had to stop being their friend because they couldn't or wouldn't change. It's clear there's one main bully, why are the rest still that person's friend??? Context would've given this a 10.

Por um momento eu pensei em desistir logo no primeiro episódio, não por que o drama fosse ruim, mas por que as cenas de bulling são pesadas. A situação da Dong-Eun é tao desoladora e triste, os agressores dela são tao crueis que eu nao pude assistir em vários momentos, confesso que pulei algumas cenas. A atriz que interpreta a versão jovem da personagem principalmente deu um show de atuação. O elenco todo esta fantástico.
Alguns momentos do plano de vinganca são um pouco absurdos, mas nada que incomode muito, no geral achei o roteiro muito bom e sem muitos furos.
Os personagens que são os agressores não apresentam dualidades, em nenhum momento você simpatiza, ou tem pena deles, você fica o tempo todo torcendo pra que eles paguem por ser pessoas tão ruins. Aqui nao tem aquela história de eram jovens por isso eram babacas e se tornaram adultos melhores, eles são odiosos o tempo inteiro. No geral achei um bom dorama do gênero e valeu a pena assistir, ansiosa pa segunda parte.

não sei o que colocar aqui

dorama muito foda, gostei bastante e prendeu minha atenção logo de cara.
fiquei chocada com as cenas de bullying, principalmente depois de saber que é baseado em acontecimentos da vida real. gostei muito da atriz que interpreta a park yeonjin, a personagem dela me lembrou um pouco a cheon seojin de the penthouse.
to muito ansiosa pra segunda parte, pena que vem só em março.

Impactante!

Fazia tempo que não via um drama sobre vingança que fosse tão bem desenvolvido! A escolha dos atores para os personagens adolescentes para representar os adultos foram muito compatíveis, realmente pareciam ser as mesmas pessoas. A atuação da
Song Hye Kyo foi de tirar o fôlego, assim como também a atriz que representa ela adolescente. O tanto que a Moon Dong Eun sofreu durante sua vida, é impressionante o quanto que ela persistiu pra continuar em seu objetivo. O personagem do Lee Do Hyun foi surpreendente também, mostrando que ele também tem um trauma, que também deseja vingança e vai ajudá-la em tudo que ela precisar.
Fiquei chocada quando soube que as cenas de bullying foram inspiradas em fatos reais, é realmente triste a situação escolar da Coréia.
