The Blue Whisper: Part 2 (2022)

Tiene todo lo que quieren las guachas

Recién la terminé de ver y todavía no lo puedo creer. La cantidad de veces que lloré con este drama, incluso con personajes que sabía que iban a revivir, es increíble.

Sufre de lo que sufre este género: los primeros cinco capítulos son lentos y sentís que nada de lo que sucede está muy atado. Lo que me gustó mucho es que al principio la trama apuntaba para un lado y después termina girando tanto que apunta en una dirección opuesta. El guión está muy bien escrito y estos cambios no parecen bruscos. Por el contrario, cada personaje tiene vida propia y va construyendo la trama, lo que se agradece. Parece una tontería pero muchas series caen en la tentación de que la trama justifica todo.
Así los personajes te van guiando a través de las decisiones que toman a partir de lo que les pasa. (SPOILERS A PARTIR DE ACÁ) Me sorprendió mucho cuando Yun He tiró a Chang Yi por el acantilado y lo apuñaló que ella no se muriera en ese mismísimo lugar, fue super angustiante porque actuaba a sabiendas de que esa era la última vez que lo iba a ver a él. Le dijo cosas horribles para que no se quedara atado a ella, todo para que después sobreviviera y la encerrasen una vez más en una prisión. Fue super frustrante ver como ella, un personaje que había anhelado la libertad y siempre tenía que tener mil ojos en la espalda para que no la mataran ni torturaran más, termina siendo primero el experimento del jefe de la aldea y DESPUÉS del Maestro Inmortal. Terribles ganas de golpear la pantalla. Yun He es un personaje entero que sabe lo que quiere, también me sorprendí mucho cuando tuvo la oportunidad de escaparse de la prisión pero aprovechó mejor para inspeccionar y descubrir que era lo que tramaba en verdad el Maestro para así finalmente descubrirnos que él es el villano en realidad, aprovechando en el medio para seguir explorando sus nuevas habilidades y rescatar a los otros Inmortales. Su habilidad para manipular está pulidísima y, remarcando una vez más la calidad del guión, no parece ser fingido. Yo me creía lo que ella les decía. Como espectadora me parece clave esto último.
Cuando Chang Yi la rescata y la vuelve a encerrar casi vuelvo a golpear la pantalla de vuelta. Él estaba extremadamente dolido, lo entiendo. Ella no quería decirle la verdad para que cuando al fin se muriese él no sufriera tanto, eso también lo entiendo. Me gustó muchísimo cuando Yun He revivió, lo abrazó y le confesó que en realidad nunca lo había traicionado, pero como se iba a morir tenía muchísimo miedo de decirle la verdad porque eran cosas que ella no quería enfrentar. 10/10 en comunicación y desarrollo de personaje. Todos vivimos alguna vez el miedo a decir una verdad y que explote todo a la mierda.
No quiero seguir extendiéndome, pero esto debe ser nombrado porque me pareció ÉPICO, La historia comienza cuando Shun De, la princesa inmortal, captura a Chang Yi para domarlo, quitarle su cola de sireno y hacerse un VESTIDO CON LAS ESCAMAS. Sí, así como lo leen. Al final, gracias al poder del Principe Inmortal, Chang Yi revive y la fruta usada para traerlo de vuelta le devuelve la cola de sireno. En la batalla final quedan enfrentados Shun De con Chang Yi, este último atrapa a la princesa con hielo y, para tirarla a la formación, le pega un colatazo que mamita. Lo repetí como 3 veces. No me arrepiento de nada. ÉPICO QUEDO, ÉPICO. Segunda temporada, capítulo 20, minuto 12:25. De nada.


MI ÚNICA QUEJA NO ES QUE LOS PERSONAJES SE MUERAN, ES QUE SEAN LOS MISMOS. Li Shu, mi hermoso Li Shu se muere DOS VECES. Chang Yi, una vez. Yun He DOS VECES. Luo Luo nos amagó feo, pero se quedó.

Visually, musically, emotionally - in Part 2, this show still hit all the right spots!

Like part 1, the audience also had much to enjoy in part 2, but unlike part 1, the lead-up to the ending was not as satisfying.

Echoing my review of part 1, TBW continued to deliver an engaging storyline. Add to that, the most touching song tracks and AMAZING acting from almost every cast member, this drama pulled me in so thoroughly, keeping me on an intense emotional rollercoaster. I was so emotionally invested, rooting for many, including the main couple, and cursing at the antagonists. Yet, I cannot help but feel sympathy for the villains. The story did well in making the audience understand what the characters, including the villains have gone through, the reasons for their actions, and their circumstances.

The story maintained a good pacing and flowed nicely, with each episode never losing its momentum. Having read the novel, a couple of changes in part 2 were for the better, some took away poignant moments for me, and my reaction to other changes was "WTH"?!! Still, I never felt tempted to skip, and I know I will rewatch the entire show once it is properly subbed in English because it was that good.

Also, I have to highlight the beautiful costume designs with their intricate and thoughtful details.

I have nothing but praises for the acting delivered by Dilraba, Ren Jia Lun, Xiao Shun Yao, Christy Guo, Wang Zi Teng, Hu Yi Xuan, Fan Zhen, Ci Sha, and many others. As the show progressed, these talented actors have proven that they have the acting chops to pull off a complex story.

Just when I thought I could not admire Dilraba further, it turned out that I could go up another level. Additionally, I am now a fan of Ren Jia Lun and Xiao Shun Yao. RJL's visuals are not my usual preference, but in this show, in that persona, he's gorgeous and captivated me. As for XSY whose character Lin Hao Qing was so well-written and well-acted, I suffered a strong case of second lead syndrome. Naturally, him exuding sexy manliness the whole time was also a factor.

For me, Wang Zi Teng as Kong Ming who received undeserved criticism for not being good-looking enough, was a great match for Hu Yi Xuan They did have a quirky, adorable chemistry between them. Also, a huge shout-out to Christy Guo who managed to make my blood boil so much, by staying maniacally in character to the very end!

Unfortunately, after building the momentum up so much, the final scenes were choppy and a letdown. The ending led a few to question whether it was an open or happy ending. I think it was clearly and definitely a happy ending.

Perhaps the director, who is known to have produced shows with controversial endings, was hoping to encourage and engage the audience's imagination by going for a conscious artistic act of intentional omission and suggestion. However, after reading the spoilers, I am more convinced that the director made a mistake in cutting out a crucial scene. To me, it was a result of bad editing.

On the whole, though, I highly recommend TBW. The storyline, the settings, the costumes, the choreography, the music, the acting…if I were to consider the show as a whole, it is really one that is worth watching.

Perhaps one day, the director will release a version with an alternate ending, including the cut-out scene. At that time, I will give the show a perfect 10 since it truly deserves that.
