This drama is like an abusive relationship. You get abused and beaten most of the time, but it gives you enough bittersweet moments to keep those glimpses of hope and make you stay. It ends with a murder, but you get acquitted based on the psychological trauma playing a big factor in the crime. Now you are ready to start your new free life with people that care about you.

Jokes aside, it was not an easy watch. The show is filled with workplace abuse and unfairness, with little happy moments. If you want an underdog winning at the end against all the odds, this ain’t that. Even the positive moments, mostly led to misfortune.

And yet I did not drop it, and it’s all thanks to the characters and their relationships. I guess there is something heartwarming seeing people suffering together and trying to survive the nasty environment. The writer made sure we knew the characters, they seemed real - someone we actually could meet in the office. This helped me relate to them and care for their journeys.

The relationship that interested me the most and slowly I started to pay a lot of attention to was Young Yi and Sung Joon. They had a really interesting dynamic and it was amazing to see the differences between their interactions depending on the situation.

What’s most important - the drama never felt preachy. It shows you various characters with different takes on life, different priorities and ways of dealing with problems and tasks. It highlights how the same trait can be both an asset and a setback, depending on the situation and people you interact with.

The acting left nothing to desire. I felt physically and emotionally exhausted just looking at Lee Sung Min - his performance being one of my favorites. I could just feel the frustration leaking through my screen while I was watching the show. I also enjoyed Kim Dae Myung’s portrayal of a slightly passive, but ready to give a logical and more objective advice Kim Dong Shik.

The whole OST is a masterpiece. While these are not songs I would put on my playlist and listen to, they all matched the tone of the show perfectly.

Overall, I suffered a lot while watching, no idea how I finished the show, and yet I could not rate it lower than 8. That’s the charm - you are grateful for the frustration it caused.

Honestly, I didn't hate this drama, but I didn't love it either. The acting was...not good. The story was alright. But the cinematography was honestly super beautiful and it was honestly a good laugh because of how bad the acting was. The romance was really cute especially when you find out at the very end why Zhi Hao's aura was special to Shi Ya. Everything tied up perfectly at the end and that is all we could hope for in this drama. It was cool watching something with a supernatural flare, plus it was all really pretty to watch, but that was the only thing this drama had going for it. I think I might have given this drama a higher score because my roommates and I had a good laugh. I don't understand, honestly, why this drama is currently a 9.1/10 on Viki, which is a higher score than Sweet Dreams, which blows my mind!! I wasn't a fan of any of the side characters except for Simba's...human...friend. I only say that because I was unsure what Simba's relationship was with this guy. I feel bad because I don't even remember his name. Basically, Simba is in a C-pop boy group and we are not sure if it is a duo group with him and this other guy, or if there are more guys in the group that we just don't see. His "friend" knows about vampires, and becomes almost like Simba's lapdog so he doesn't have to go out and hunt for human aura. I only really liked him as a side character because whenever there was an issue, he would stay super neutral and try to understand both sides, while everyone else picked one side and wouldn't budge. He was Shi Ya and Zhi Hao's biggest supporter and didn't care who knew. It was funny how someone who willingly wanted to be Simba's lapdog would be the only one with any moral compass in this drama. Other than that, maybe Shi Ya's younger brother was the second favorite, but we only saw him for a little bit in a couple of episodes. He was funny and he would go off an do his own thing and dated a human girl. Everyone else...Shi Ya's sister was too proud and thought she was better than everyone else, but changed her mind a lot and we were expected not to notice; Shi Ya's manager was super oblivious and didn't realize the guy she loved was a half-vampire who was the bad guy in season one; and even the two mains were a tad annoying. Once Zhi Hao became cured of his germaphobia, he became obsessed with Shi Ya. It was cute how much he loved her and how he rejected the thought of Shi Ya using him and she didn't love him, but homeboy got really stalkery. Shi Ya on the other hand refused the thought of maybe Zhi Hao just didn't like her and she chased him until he loved her, but then once she finds out this huge secret, she shuns the hell out of him. Like...homegirl, really? I understand you don't want to hurt him, but throughout this whole drama, you were trying to prove to everyone that because of your love for him, you wanted to find a way to make it work, even it that meant cutting back on your make out sessions. But randomly, in season two you decide that it ain't worth it and you basically gave fake promises to your man. But it was fun seeing Zhi Hao have some life in him and do the chasing in that season. I just didn't like how she was selfish and didn't care if loving her would change his life completely, but then reject him when he proposed to you and break up with him.

I didn't expect that FUTS will be that "good"

Fish upon the Sky (FUTS) is a good series. It is not that heavy compared to other Thai series that I have watched on GMMTV's channel. It offers or gives a cool or refreshing storytelling method; I think this has so much potential if the story/plot is better.

I am not saying that the story or plot is not good. In fact, I kind of liked it. It has a cliche storyline like the usual boy love series that I have watched so far: the enemy-to-lovers plot. I was just hoping that the writers delved more into how Mork (Pond) fell in love with Pi (Phuwin) because it was not clearly mentioned or narrated in the story as they just simply showed a scene where Pi and Mork directly interacted with each other.

The characters cannot be real. They do not have the quality of realness, they are really fiction characters. Mork was depicted to be a "coward" in confessing his affection or at least showing it in the first parts of their story before being friends and couple. It is somehow confusing how Mork totally overcome his "fear" of approaching Pi while being directly flirty with him when Pi started to interact with Nan (Mix).

I think Phuwin did a good job of acting. I think he portrayed his character well. Pond has still this "newbie-vibe" in the industry but still was able to do his job well. They have good chemistry, I just hope that they will be given a better project with better storyline and script soon. On the other hand, the character of Duean was overacted to the point that sometimes it is already cringing and not funny anymore. Meen was good and his character was really convinceable; I did not expect that he sang the official sound track (OST) of the series not until I finished watching it and searched for the OST.

Moreover, the music and sounds used in the series are good. I got addicted to it for weeks.

On the whole, I can say that I can recommend it to others who are looking for series that are light-hearted and somehow heart-warming. I am waiting for season 2 with better plot and improved acting skills of actors.

Good Enough

Korean Drama "True Beauty" based on a webtoon and with a fresh and comical mood, gives a light school love story with not many surprises and a pretty basic plot.

First of all, the drama nailed the atmosphere, settings and costumes for this series. The comic book shop and the girl's room, especially, were created with such detail that they were nice to watch.

The bromance was pretty entertaining as well. The two male leads had chemistry and they provided a lot of funny moments. The start of the drama was interesting as well, with some intense moments and dramatic twists. There were some funny scenes in this drama as well, and the second couple were really cute!

However, the rest of it was average. The love triangle was weak, with the second lead being interesting in her towards the middle of the length, and even then the female lead didn't seem to notice him at all. The main love story, on the other hand, was okay, but it was predictable and that twist in the end was boring and aged.

The rest of the story was also predictable and boring towards the ending.

So, overall, six and a half out of ten.

Hoping for more exciting and interesting seasons in the future

I was so excited when I saw a post about TZ:SM S2 but I guess I expected too much. Comparing it to S1, this one was a bit boring and plain. Sure, the casts did a great job but there were times that their behaviors felt so unrealistic, immature and it looked like they were just trying to be funny (which I understand because this is for entertainment purposes). Moreover, I noticed how immature Yuri was in EP 6, she was trying to provoked/forced Jaesuk and Kwangsoo to cross over the bridge (I also saw Yuri pushed Jaesuk which he did not find it funny), she could've been gentle about it but decided to be unprofessional. If you are an OG fan of Kwangsoo and Jaesuk you would probably understand that these two have fear of heights. It may look like they are overacting sometimes but phobia is not a joke. Hence, I love and respect all the casts and I hope if they decided to release another season, it would be much more and more interesting and different than this one.

Aw man, this was just too short... so this is what Wen Ning and his nephew did after they left Wei Wu Xian and Lan Wang Ji. Does that mean they will do a short extension of Wei Wu Xian and Lan Wang Ji in another short movie? I hope they bring back Wen Ning played by Paul Yu. I loved the way they utilize the chains as weapons for Wen Ning. Paul Yu did a fantastic job and hope to see an actual full drama following the same storyline! The visuals were dynamic, those chains though... I am also looking forward to seeing more of Zheng Fan Xing, he makes me smile with his smile. Oh my gosh, this was a great storyline still can't get over it!

Just letting y'all know that I don't like to watch anything that brings back the dead, vampires, or zombies. This was different.

Definitely A+ series

This review is to thank the entire production behind this series, p-Aof, p-Khla, BamBam, casting, and everyone. Thank you for being the bestselling novel into life. I started first few episode of this series just like all other Thai drama/series but ending is surprisingly different. Before Cutie Pie, there wasn’t that too many good drama to watch these days but CutiePie has raised the standard even higher… casting, soundtrack, cinematography is A+. GOOD JOBS!!!

“Love is Human Right” and marriage equality… i hope this will happen soon too.

It’s not a drama, it’s more of a life lesson.

Honestly speaking, I was not as charmed by it as many people, but I still see the value this show has and its perfect execution. It was not an exciting roller coaster that made you want more. It reminded me more of a cup of hot tea that you crave after an exhausting day.

There is no real plot, and the whole show focused on the characters and their daily lives. One could assume it’s boring, but the realistic problems they are facing, the true emotions shown through the acting, and the inspiring dialogues serves all that one could ask for.

Turning on the episodes just felt like hanging out with friends - I laughed with them, cried with them, was frustrated and happy when they were. The show had this magical quality that made you feel part of it, included in whatever was happening on screen.

Realistically speaking, romance was the weakest part of the show. With Hye Ri and Joon Yeol dating in real life, their on screen chemistry has been just too strong. Personally, I was team Taek, with how the characters and the story was written, they just made more sense. That said, I could clearly see why so many people suffered from Second Lead Syndrome.

On the other hand, Reply 1988 gave me one of the realest representations of teenage crushes. The intense emotions, lack of maturity that goes into it. How one day you might like one person, to fall for someone else the next day. It all reminded me of my first crushes and how ridiculously over the top it all was back in the days.

My favorite stories did not even include the main teens. I was in love with all the ajummas and their husbands. Even the possibility of any of them getting hurt made me cry.

One complaint I would have - the episodes were too long. I’d rather have 24 episodes and none of them being longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes, than having some of the last episodes almost 2 hours long. Especially since it was a show I enjoyed watching before sleep, and sometimes I truly struggled to finish the episode without falling asleep.

Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. It’s hard for me to describe why. It’s just dear to my heart without me being able to verbalize why.

This is a very good drama. I think kdramas are really trying hard to improve their skill in storytelling. As long as i remember until around 2019, they tend to switch their comedy genre to a melodrama thing when the story progressed and this kind of thing is frustated me when i watch a drama (imo this is happened quite often in saeguk drama). Because when i watch a comedy drama, i want to see comedy in every episode. I can tolerate some melodrama scenes, but only for side story and just to help the story progress.

But Mr. Queen is very good with consistency, and i really like that all of characters have been layered. I love that they have motivations for doing something, so i believe them as a human being because that's what people do in real life. Also, the FL always shows her best in her drama. I can see her as a different person in each of her dramas, and that's showing her talent as an actress. As for the ML, this is the first time i saw him in a drama and i can tell that he can act, and his acting is good. I really hope they will be pairing again in their next project, because the actor can balance his acting with hers.

If i could complain, it's just the ending. There will be no spoiler here, but i may say that the ending will be better if the ML didn't say one particular line hehe. Still, i recommend this drama if you want to watch a comedy in saeguk era :)

Decent but rough, pretty much a trashy romance type of show yk

Aug 4, 2021

Hmmm I don’t even know what words to say for this series. Like its decent not bad but not good either. Both leads are either too dumb or too pushy and very desperate? Honestly some parts are so frustrating but I wasn’t bored either. Like I laughed on parts and skipped episodes…. So even I am confused 🤔 like I don’t even know what to say or if I recommend this for other people… but yeaa 💀

I’ll prolly categorize this as those trashy romance cliché drama if you know what I mean …
