Remake of Novel NOT Drama

FULL DISCLAIMER:
Okay, first of all people need to know that this is a remake based on Zhao Qian Qian’s novel which is also clearly stated in the opening sequence so don’t come watching this thinking it’s gonna be a copy and past version of the Chinese drama. I’ve not read the novel so have no idea how close the drama is. My advise would be to lower your expectations, better still have none and don’t compare cos you will most likely be disappointed.

Secondly, whilst I did try the Chinese version I dropped it after one episode so I was kinda happy when I found out that there would be a Thai version especially one that’s not yet another Korean drama. I do love Thailand for remaking as many Korean dramas as they have but honestly, it’s so darn refreshing that they went with China.

As always, starting with the negatives which for me were the second leads. I tend not to like them if I’m being quite honest and this was no different. I found them both annoying until I didn’t anymore but I also didn’t like Pai’s so called friend Wawa. I found her to be selfish and her scenes always consisted of her moaning which resulted in my skipping most of her scenes unless she was with Pai or Pupaa.

STORY
This is pretty much the usual Cookie Cutter school love story for me, I’m not much of a School drama fan. Nothing really new to bring to the table but I guess for me, I found the fluff of it all refreshing….explained in my final thoughts. Also, whilst I did love the fact that the drama wasn’t just about the romance, I would’ve loved to get more light on the friendship between Ta and Pupaa. One thing I didn’t really like is how Pai always needed someone to come and solve her problems for her. Whilst the drama is made from China origin, I loved how they still managed to incorporate some Thai stuff into it to make it feel a bit more Thai. My favourite parts of the drama were definitely the Special Scenes.

ACTING/CAST
The acting isn’t anything groundbreaking but considering the actress playing Pai is a newbie, I personally think she did rather well. I enjoyed the main couple the most and what little friendship was used, I thought they had nice chemistry and fitted the characters well.

MUSIC
I only noticed the opening song which I loved. Oh and the lyric free background music.

REWATCH VALUE
For me, yes because I’ve probably enjoyed it more than I ever imagined I would.

I’m not usually into the overly fluffy romcoms but as far as Thai productions go, this is possibly the fluffiest I’ve ever seen which is a huge deal for me as most Thai I watch tend to come from Channels 3, 7 and One31 so you know there is a big difference. I didn’t feel out of my comfort zone which is strange as I previously mentioned, I’m not a fan of fluff or school and some scenes you could tell were a bit too cringey but somehow I didn’t cringe as much as I normally would from other countries. It’s been a nice experience watching a drama without fear of someone getting kidnapped, assaulted or stalked by some killer. This is a true romcom and I wish more were like this - danger free!

Not the Chinese version remake, light hearted, watchablele

Finished all the episodes today. It was a feel good, light, rom com. Touches thai culture as well, but it feels rushed.
Things are rushed at the end, honestly they could have cancelled on the other unnecessary stuff like the time angle or the ta angle.
Also in ep 19-20 it suddenly feels that Dr. Gu Wei Yi became so important that the ending also didn't have the leads alone.
It could have been better but nevertheless it is a good watch

The show is light hearted, has no breakups, no problematic leads, also touches on thai aspects. Overall you can watch, BUT
Don't compare to the Chinese version, because it is different and new, also the leads are good, especially the FL.

its a good light thai rom com

i dont watch much thai dramas.. but most of the ones i have watched.. were much heavier much more melodramatic..

this was really light hearted.. fun rom com... some of the beats of the original were there but its not really a straight remakes.. the characters were all there but the setups and the situations are all different and major parts of the chinese version didnt make it into this one..

the 2 ml were fun to watch.. the fl lead character was written much more unsure of herself.. putting a much tougher fascade that is much more easily broken.. than in the other version..
the ml character was about the same.. not much difference though i felt a bit less arrogant? throughout the show..

their chemistry was good..

the 2nd leads.. was fun but a bit weird.. short.. kinda underdeveloped..

the antagonists on both sides.. time and kwang.. were done well for their parts... strangely time had more screen time than kwang and more time to cause havok.. but it was light overall

good show music was catchy...

nice adaption.. wouldnt call it a remake.. and the surprise cameos at the end were fun

Surprisingly Good

I wasn't sure about watching another version of this series since I wasn't a big fan of the FL in the Chinese Version. She was a bit harsh and rough around the edges, so much so, I kept wondering how the ML fell in love with her. I ended up dropping it.

I'm glad I didn't let my negative experience with that version keep me from watching this version. I LOVE the FL here who much more vulnerable and is softer around the edges. She also explains her insecurities a lot better....something that was missing with the other version.

I'm looking forward to see how the loves grows between the leads. I would recommend.

Just Meh

after watching the trailer of this Thai Version, i told myself to watch this no matter what the outcome. well, to be honest i like the original version. Chinese has a cute and light story and you will fall the MC immediately (for me that is), the complicated love is also light, the sounds effect of a cat and dog are so cute whereas the Thai version, well they turn it kinda mature, also the setting so mature-ish, the complicate love between Prapai and Tar, got more complicated even with Tar and Wawa. and the comedy was sometimes off. oh and before i forgot, Time here was so different from Lin Zhi Cun's character.
But still i will not dropped this Thai drama, i will watch this til the end.

side note : i like Pupaa and Pai's chemistry. They are so cute to watch. i am still waiting for LinYi's appearance as a guest. ?

Opening Music - 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Acting - 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Rewatch - 2.5
Story - 2.5 - 3 ... (i still like the light and fluffy version of Chinese)

Different in a good way

I honestly liked this a bit more than I liked the original Chinese version, which I watched 2 times back to back since I already liked it so much. That version was a bit more lighthearted than the Thai version, as Situ Mo didn't get screwed over by her coworker as Prapai did. This version would've been way better with all the sound effects from the Chinese version, ngl. Anyways, I thought they made the SML way more tolerable and likable this time. From my POV Ta actually goes through a lot more character development than Fu Pei did. Nothing bad to say about the male lead. I was pleasantly surprised to see Gu Weiyi in the last 2 episodes, though I was a bit disappointed as I thought I could hear him speak Thai. The ending was a bit rushed though, but I enjoyed the wedding scene. I honestly would give this a 10 for everything if I heard him speak Thai AND if the ending wasn't so rushed.

So........ That Happened

Keep in mind that this is just my opinion, nothing more
There is nothing wrong with this version, but I can say that I did not come with an open mind, The Chinese version is a lot to live up to.
When you watch this come with no expectations and think of this as a new show and not a remake.
This version is very light, innocent and a little naïve.

The couples are drastically different, I didn't feel any chemistry between either couple, and communication is definably lost in translation. I would say when I got to episode 10 things started to drag for me and I started skipping through.

Truth be told I really only watched this to see Lin Yi cameo, I normally do not watch remakes but with the temptation of Lin Yi appearing I really wanted to see how they tide this together.

In the Chinese version they were very much a cute couple, it was in the way that they interacted with each other.
Lin Yi really pulls off any role that he plays and Xing Fei is just adorable.

Recommended light Rom Com chasing your dreams

Recommended light Rom Com about chasing your dreams, friendship and romance.

Cameo roles Xingfei and Linyi ftom the original Chinese drama give off extra flavor to the drama.
Characters did portray their lines well. The FL delivered a very nice, friendly, sunny, cheerful, clever character. Comparing to the original ones having a little rough temperament, she was soft and gentle.

The ML is quite good for the role too but needs more improvements on his acting. He delivered a nice, quiet, scholarly type of character well.

The chemistry between the two leads is okay. This Thai remake is not bad as it seems to others. The Ending cut scene is way too cute Prapai and Puppa's little Einstein Includes Linyi and Xingfei's appearance in the end. ??

Not as fluffy as expected

Just wanna start by saying that Put Your Head On My Shoulder Chinese adaptation is one of my all-time favorite romcom EVER. With that being said, when I read that it is going to have a Thai version, it went straight to my must-watch list.

I honestly expected it to be as cute as the C-version but when I started this it was quite different. I didn't know until I read the comments that this is an adaptation of the novel and not the drama itself. I also didn't read the novel so I have no idea how faithful it was to the original material. One of the best words to describe the C-version is FLUFF. So I was just kinda hoping it would maintain at least that feel in this version.

It didn't quite met my expectation of the feels. It did have its own charm to it though so I'm still rating it quite high. I would minimize comparison with the C-version here to give this version a little more leeway.

Acting-wise, it was mid. Although I believe with this kind of plot it doesn't need any acting prowess. I am familiar with the casts except for the female lead. New always plays this kind of soft boy roles and he's good at it. But I need to see him somewhere new for a change. I can also see the chemistry between him and Kaimuk. Kaimuk is a beginner and I am willing to give her a pass on her acting this time. Gigi is the weakest link but with the way her character is written, there is really nothing much she can do about it. This is probably the weakest performance of hers in all the works I have watched her in. The chemistry of the whole cast is really good though.

Story-wise, nothing spectacular. There are a lot of filler scenes. I think 20-episodes for this is too much. They spent too much time on Time's arc (pun intended). If his role is to annoy the hell out of people watching this show, then he played his role really well. It would've been more interesting if they went with the bestfriend as the triangle in the love story. Kaimuk's portrayal of Prapai made her look dumb I feel like I'm watching It Started With A Kiss. Tar and Wawa is still a snoozefest like their Chinese counterparts (oh no I did it! lol). Pupaa and Prapai did give us the butterflies of first loves and I think that is what this drama is all about.

Overall, I 'm rating this one above average because I don't want to compare it with anything else. It was a sweet and cute drama on its own. If you want to watch something for fluff, this is not the best out there. But if you have lots of spare time, then give this one a chance.

cute and endearing

Having seen both series now, I'm glad that the Thai "version" isn't actually a remake. It has its own story to tell with its own set of unique characters. The only thing really similar is that you have a science nerd and a creative falling in love. It's so fun seeing Gu Wei Yi from the 2019 Chinese drama as a cameo appearance here, as Pupaa's science idol.

I'm not a huge fan of the story for either drama, honestly, but it is light-hearted and cute overall. My biggest issue is that I didn't feel a whole lot of romantic attraction between the leads, but their romance is less "set the world on fire" and more "let's stroll through the park hand in hand." So once I realized that, I was fine with it. People can be in love without intense visual passion.

The second leads in Ta and Wawa were particularly fun. I ended up liking Ta best of all the major players, which is funny because I didn't like him much at first. But he did some growing and some maturing and overall was just a fun, quirky sort of character. Time, the Thai pop star, was okay. I have a trend in what I like as pop stars *cough, Saint, cough* and he doesn't quite fit it, but that's okay. He added the necessary drama to the story and I ended up feeling bad for him when he didn't get the girl. That's not a spoiler, btw, I'm sure everyone already figured out that Prapai and Pupaa end up together.

It did take longer to finish than I anticipated. I got bored at about episode 12 so put it on hold for a few months and then picked it up again to finish the Thai Watch Challenge 2022. If I hadn't had a challenge pushing me to finish it, I'm honestly not sure I'd have gotten it done. So, yes, it's cute and endearing, but I, myself, preferred Voice in the Rain much more. It's not that anything is inherently wrong with Put Your Head on My Shoulder, it's just that maybe it feels a bit too much like a K or C drama for my liking. Which is why, just like the 2019 C drama series, I'll probably never watch it again. Saying that, I think audiences who primarily watch K and C romance dramas will love it.

Better stay away unless you have plenty of time to waste like me

The title of the drama already has drawn many comparisons to the Chinese version. If you are checking this review to ask which version is better, it is certainly the Chinese version with no doubt.

Coming back to the review of Thai version, I believe the main drawback is the failure to emote and connect viewers with the feelings. Most of the scenes felt with no life in them, the first half of the drama was a lot memorable to me due to Female lead. She is a breath of fresh air to Thai drama and single handedly lifted the first half in many occasions with her charm. Then the second half got much worse that the drama managed to pulled down her charms together.

What went wrong ?
1. The second ML / love rival character “time”. He has no connection to the story at all. He simply came just to play a love rival character and annoy audience.
2. Boring scenes of science. There was an episode where ML travels for his experiment right after the couple together. There the forced scientific stuffs where testing our patience. We do get excited and wooed when science is used intelligently but not use it for namesake.
3. ML boring acting ? Although ML looked charming and handsome, his acting isn’t good enough to carry this character.
4.Unnecessary breakup by the end along with the hate from both side parents. They didn’t even try to solve those issues to give a proper conclusion and instead played it all fun in unconvincing way.
5. Many scenes felt like fillers. You can easily skip half of this drama without losing any content ….
